Dan Mason fed Up with CBS!

Back to the original post. Dan Mason is a real radio guy and I'm sure he doesn't like the cuts the company is forced to make. I'd sure rather have him at the helm orchestrating the changes rather than some totally corporate suit. If you think about it the CBS cuts seem to have some thought behind them and are being done carefully to avoid wholesale changes in prime dayparts. It sucks to have any of these cuts but the stations are better off than they could be if others were making the decisions.

Anyone who knocks Dan Mason for not being a radio man is welcome to return to the days of a certain Wall Street darling and his sidekick who is now running another major group into the ground.

Confronted with fiscal realities, I would much prefer a radio man to a hatchet man when it comes to making decisions about downsizing.

And remember, the big macher at National Amusements (and the money men to whom he is indebted) ultimately calls the shots, and his financial situation is not exactly rosie!

It AIN'T no fun to see our business torn to shreds, but we are all victims of the tanking economy. We're sadly not alone.

What a mess being dumped on Obama. Even a miracle man will not be able to wave a magic wand and quicly clean up the destrus left by the outgoing folks.

Les Moonves to Dan Mason:

"Get your ass down to Atlanta and fix that mess NOW!"

I just happened to be in the Waffle House in downtown Atlanta, and who should I run into? Why, Dan Mason! He told me that the mess was all cleaned up now.

Dan Mason is, I am sure not happy with the cuts. The problem with radio is greed. Companies wanted to expand and did too much of it. Now everything is about the bottom line. It isn't about quality, it isn't about serving the public as radio was intended.

Until the business model gets cleaned up and consolidation gets reversed, radio as a medium is screwed.
