DAN PATRICK LEAVING ESPN RADIO & ESPN TELEVISION

...and this opinion is exactly why I find very little to like on the national sports talk level. Give me my local stations' sports programming anytime, where they pretty much only talk about sports and sports-related subjects, and break down games. I turn the radio off when the likes of Cowherd, Rome, Czaban, and Brick are on, exactly because of the stuff PowerCow's talking about.

Exactly, I agree. That makes my point that pure sportstalk has a naturally limited audience of pure sportsfans. It might work locally, where everybody in Dallas wants to talk about the Cowboys, but nationally there is no unifying topic most of the time. What's big news in one area can't necessarily draw listeners all over the country.

As an example, listeners outside New York don't care too much about A-Rod, nor his wife, nor his wife's profane t-shirt, and certainly not enough to carry a three-hour talk show.

???Could he actually do play-by-play of a team??? Never heard him mention it? Also, wonder what this does to Oberman's contract. Going to be sad day on Aug 17, but should be a very good week of radio though. Think the'll let Dibs come back?

Since Dibs works for Fox Sports Radio, I don't think it would be a good idea for him to be on ESPN Radio, even for a special event like Dan's last day.

J.T. The Brick and Tony Bruno are the only sports radio hosts left that don't script their entire shows and are connected with fans. This week Bruno was live from The All Star Game and Brick was at the Pepsi 400 in Daytona. They will both be in Tahoe for the big celebrity golf tournament. They are sports fans who go to games and talk with fans. Rome only goes to games with a body guard and Colin seems to "mature" to leave his condo in Bristol to go to any major event. STOP READING YOUR RADIO SHOWS!

Nice thread, I think most of the hosts fall into that B grade for me and everyone else C,D, and F even.

What would you grade:
Ben Maller
Czaban
Gottlieb

Do you have anything lower than an F that I can pass on to Czaban?

jetfli,

what do you not like about Czaban?

I think his show is great.

Best sports station I have ever heard is The Ticket in Dallas.

I don't care for his "potty" mouth. When my clock-radio alarm goes off in the morning, I don't like to wake up to hear a sports talk host shouting out various names for male body parts throughout my household, as was the case before I changed the station. It ruins an otherwise great sports station, where the local hosts don't stoop to such.
