Dan Rather's Back On TV

In what I believe will be one of the first on-air reports former CBS News anchorman Dan Rather's has done for the network since stepping down from the "Evening News" in March, he'll appear on tonight's (September 2nd) "60 Minutes II" (8-9 P.M. EDT) to talk to a Louisiana state health official about the public-health crisis following Hurricane Katrina.

I think he may have done one or two segments for "60 Minutes" or "60 Minutes II" earlier this Summer.

I suspect tonight's edition will be devoted entirely to Hurricane Katrina's aftermath, which will probably draw more viewers than a "typical" edition of the program.

Before he retired, I heard that he will be working regularly with 60 Minutes.<P ID="signature">______________

Hurricane coverage is nothing new to Rather. It was his reporting in the 60s on a hurricane that hit the Texas coast and was the catalyst for him going to CBS. He helped rescue a horse stranded by rising water and the film of it turned into a television event. Rather knew (and knows still) how to play the angles--almost essential in the business today.
