I also find the Alternative = EDM Comparison fitting, because Alternative meant something before the Labels tampered with it. It was Electronic based, stemming from New Wave as opposed to disposable noise by the later rock acts of the 90s. With that being said, EDM is now in jeapordy of its identity. By definition, it was coined as Electronic Dance, but Todays version only includes the same ole overplayed styles that you see booked at these Arenas. What about straight up House or more complex produced Dance? Does everything need to have the predictable synth fist pumping breakdown, build up imitation Benassi jump jump routine? Throw in some car alarms and some cats vomitting (distorted with compression of course), then you got yourself a #1 track on Beatport!
Back to the topic, crying over what the labels sign or push to radio is counter productive. They will always go with what the sheep flock to.
