Dance songs that should have been huge hits

The first thing I'll discuss in that new thread is "Titanium" by David Guetta ft Sia.
How did it pass? It was all Sia singing by herself! No one even rapped in it!

I think it was helped by two factors:both Guetta and Sia were following up on two big singles (Starships/Wild Ones). Familiarity goes along way sometimes.

Actually, even more confusing than that is Calvin Harris "Feels So Close" making it huge.
And is Sia really as known as people here think? I'd say that Flo Rida is the more recognizable artist in "Wild Ones" while the female hook makes the song easily recognizable (but I'm sure a lot of people don't know who actually sings the hook). But I never thought this could lead to a pure sounding dance track with Sia singing by herself on it. It sounds straight up dance not only lyrically, but also vocally. I guess the "David Guetta" name being attached to it does help to some degree nowadays.

She's pretty popular on some pop boards I visit.

Guetta did "Turn Me On"

I figured thats what he probably meant. Starships is produced by "RedOne" who produces every other frickin Dance Pop track out (J Lo, Pitbull, Marc Anthony, Nayer, Sean Kingston, older Gaga, Usher, Enrique.....u get the idea), so that explains why everything sounds the same these days. Its almost equivilant to Guetta having 10 songs on the charts with 10 different hired singers which was the case a year ago.

Lol you know I'm not surprise I made that gaffe. You have been mentioning for a while that all these songs sound the same. And they do. But it's not all doom and gloom. It's just the beginning. When the Atlantic is writing about "EDM" being the next musical revolution then I tend to believe the hype as well. Read for yourselves: http://www.theatlantic.com/entertai...ce-music-really-could-be-the-new-rock/259597/

Medina - Addiction (2011)

Chicane - Hiding All The Stars (2010)
Sharam - She Came Along (ft. Kid Cudi/Patsy Cline) (2010)
Way Out West - The Gift (1997)
Gabriel & Dresden - Tracking Treasure Down (ft. Molly Bancroft) (2007)

Kelly Rowland ft. David Guetta - "Commander"
I blame its lack of US crossover success due to her US label, who only released it to the clubs in the US while making another song as the first lead single from Kelly's last album to send out to US pop radio ("Rose Colored Glasses," which was a flop and was dropped from the album, while "Commander" remained on it). Her label could have tried to re-release "Commander" to US pop radio--or given a proper US single release to "Down For Whatever," which was a hit in the UK--but didn't do either, wanting to shove her down the hip-hop/R&B route instead as far as America is concerned.

I was wondering if Madonna's "Girl Gone Wild" would have been a bigger hit on CHR if she had a guest rapper half her age on the song?
There was a rumor going around that Madonna had done a version of "Girl Gone Wild" with Britney Spears. If that had turned out to be true it might have gotten some notice on CHR.

But I also have to add that Madonna, outside of the Super Bowl performance, had done little to promote her MDNA album, giving one Facebook interview, one Twitter interview, and not much else, no TV appearances where she could have seen performing a current single. Certainly that lack of promotion has affected GGW's CHR pop performance (or lack of), and it's going to have the same effect with her current single "Turn Up The Radio." Madge may be at an age where she's seen as too mature for CHR, but a few high-profile interviews that focuses on the album and a performance on a TV show like "American Idol" would make it harder for CHR to ignore her and give her singles a boost on the pop chart.

Does anyone here feel that "Levels" by Avicii was robbed of being a pop hit single in the US, given the Flo Rida's "Good Feeling" used the former as the primary musical sample under Flo Rida's rapping and wound up being a huge CHR single? Yes, I know that Avicii (a/k/a Tim Bergling) was given a writing credit on FR's song, and "Levels" wound up being certified gold in America, but still...

That wasn't the first time that this sort of thing has happened. It was in 2007 that Alex Gaudino did the track "Destination Unknown" with Crystal Waters providing the vocals. Soon after another version of the track, still credited to Alex Gaudino came out as "Destination Calabria" with Rune's Calabria being mashed up in there. Rune (reversed to Enur) then came out with his version of Calabria with Saad (who died in an accident) and then done by Natasja that was HUGE in NYC.

So in that sense, Crystal Waters was robbed because her version didn't really take off stateside but was HUGE in Europe.

Commander was released to radio

Madonna doesn't relate to the younger demos. Plus if you are talking EDM it's even worse. Plus she had a big interview on KTU on the last album which has become the bench mark for how interviews are supposed to be done in a ppm world. Ktu lost a lot of meters by the end of the interview
