Dance stations making fun of other dance stations

nd2023

Banned
First of all, let me just say that I am not bashing the Mix 106.5 HD2 format.
I was listening to Mix 106.5 HD2 today and I heard one sweeper that just startled me.

"Party 93.1 Miami, gone. Energy 92.7 San Francisco, gone. Pulse 87 New York City, gone. Mix 2 Baltimore still lives"

I doubt the 10 listeners (remember, it's an HD2, and very few people have HD radios) that Mix 106.5 HD2 has would even know about the other stations. This sweeper just makes it seem like Mix 2's version of dance and hip hop is superior to the 3 stations it mentioned.
If they think the Mix 2 format is so great, why not put it on the HD1? I would love a dance leaning CHR like Mix 2 on a full market signal, it has the potential to be successful, but it will not be successful if relegated to HD radio.

I wouldn't characterize that as "making fun of" as much as it makes a point. However, the idea isn't new; XM's BPM did that in 2003 and 2004 in the wakes of KPTI, 102-1X, Energy Chicago, Party 95.3, the two KDLs, KCJZ San Antonio, etc but with more fun and flair - and it made more sense on BPM because the channel is national. But let's be real...who wants to place bets on how long (or short, as the case may be) the Baltimore station stays in the format? Methinks it will sooner than later be added to the "gone" list. Just my humble opinion.

Well in Indianapolis, Our former Orbital 93.1 HD-2 barely lasted 2 yrs,, It didnt help the fact that I could only get 65% signal strength at best from their hd...

Aaaannnddd Pulse 87 came back online, and I guess they forgot that San Francisco has Pulse 99.7 HD-2 :O

I honestly think its fine. I wish more stations would have "fun" again. There is nothing better than a good radio war
I like how you make fun of Wired 96.5 HD2. It's different to make fun of stations that currently exist and are in the same market and have the same format. But beating a dead horse is not funny.

Yeah but most listeners would not know about those other stations so its not beating a dead horse

Wired still has dance on HD-2? I thought they went off the air or is it just their online stream?
