Darian O'Toole - R.I.P.

My thoughts and prayers are with your family. Rest in peace. I listened to you on KBIG when I lived out there in the mid to late 1990s.

she was great in her days at kbgg and at ksan....she was one of my main inspirations to go into radio. so sad.

Well, the Daily News (or the Post, I can't think which but you can news google it) reported she passed away on March 31st. I think, unfortunately, if it were an April Fools joke, the only date she'd have floating around would be 4/1.

Hope I'm wrong.
 
As part of the Alex Bennett morning show on Live 105 in San Francisco in the 90s...Darian was a formidable rival...she was witty and entertaining...and will undoubtedly leave a void on the airwaves...R.I.P.

Curtis: as I recall, she said some nasty things about Alex that he claimed were untrue (accused him of harassing her with obscene phone calls, iirc). Was that ever resolved?
 
Wow, I never had the chance to meet her but I did listen to her, it was always fun. We sent each other a few emails when she was at KSAN. :( sad news...

I remember the advertising on CCCT buses ,and her picture, and her slogan. "Ovaries with an Attitude",, In 1994,,, she couldnt compete with Gary Bryan, and J.Paul Emerson,, The PD at KFRC then was David Bramnick,,he really knew how to pick a morning show R.I.P Darian,, and I will never forget J.Paul Emerson!!!!!!!!!!!! For what it's worth, KCBS just announced her passing this morning- five days after it happened. I'm guessing everyone thought it might have been an April Fool's joke at first, which would account for the delay on the report. Normally I would have expected her passing to have been reported immediately given the fact that she was fairly well-known around here.

RIP, Darian. Radio fans will miss ya.

No, I'm guessing that nobody at KCBS knew about it until they looked through this morning's Chronicle in search of news stories they missed elsewhere.

I'm sure the combination of health problems and the plethora of "personal issues" were a huge factor in her unfortunate departure. 40 is too young but with the life she led in the past several years, it is not really a surprise. Very tragic...RIP Karin!

I think she died of "Broken Morals". This should be a lesson to some of you. Straighten your life out before it's too late.

Some people just never grow up.

There may be some truth to what you say, Boss Jock 1947, but I find it a little harsh and judgmental. Perhaps she had fallen off the wagon, and that contributed to her respiratory failure, but if so, I haven't heard.

I had a good friend who died just a little older than that (46) of respiratory failure following a lung infection. She was physically healthy, in a monogamous relationship, and didn't do drugs. She was an emotional high stress person, drank a little too much (about a six pack of beer a day), and smoked a lot. So her bad habits probably contributed to her death. But she was a good person, had a lot of life ahead, and didn't deserve to die.

I'll give Darian the benefit of the doubt, too.

I basically came away with that opinion from everything she wrote on her My Space page. It reminds me of Randi Rhoads. Confused, delirious, overly aggressive, somewhat narrsistic, and apparently morally bankrupt. Call me judgemental. Maybe. I just see a very troubled person who never grew up and take on personal responsibility but i guess i'll be damned on the SF board for that.

Nevertheless...RIP Darrian...let's hope anyway.

PS: Just curious...does the drunk driver who slaughters a family of 4 and dies himself too deserve to die? I say YES.

And BossJock1947, there's no death penalty in this state for not living up to your moral standards.

From an emotional viewpoint I would say yes, too. On the moral continuum, the drunk driver certainly deserves to die more than the family he killed. But that's an odd analogy to bring up on this thread. As you say, Darian was obviously a troubled person - but in the final analysis, I don't think she hurt anybody but herself.

Nobody's damning you - just taking exception to something you said. It happens here all the time, and probably happens on any Radio-info Board, even boards for cities that would be considered more "moral" than San Francisco. Pardon me, I have to go now. She is but one of many people that populate our airwaves with irresponsible brodacasting. I have heard her work. She is not a role model. Perhaps if people like her were somewhat more responsible there would be less crude and rude people in this world.

If you were to fall asleep in 1957 and wake up in 2008 it would be obvious to you how society has deterioted.
