Some of it is really scary. Either PD Michelle Engel is more out of touch with the listeners than is previously thought or the listeners don't know how to count. Case in point, number two is The Rolling Stones. Quick, name a good Stones album in the last 25 years. Sorry, "Tattoo You" dropped in 1981. How about The Police who released exactly one album of new material in the last 25 years ("Synchronicity")? Is that one release so transcendent that it still resonates today? Or can’t DAVE-FM listeners read instructions and count? Me thinks the latter. Broooooce, Clapton, Elvis and Bowie became more mainstream in the last 25 years but by 1982, their best work was in the collective rear view mirror. Duran Duran, that had to be a joke right?
What has DAVE-FM learned from the list? Not much, a glance at what they are currently playing shows that the usual suspects still get play (U2, Coldplay, REM, Dave Matthews Band, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Sting, et al.) with little representation from the other Big 25.
Why would they have this Big 25 if not to do free Market Research? Theoretically, the brain trust at DAVE-FM thought would get a handle of what the P1's really want to hear. As of yet, they haven't added them into normal rotation. Though it is still early.
I realize that lists are just a way to get fans talking and this list proves absolutely nothing. I just find it interesting that Duran Duran has so many fans who can’t give up the ghost and Prince has more fans than Van Halen. Neither artist in rotation at DAVE-FM.
