Dave FM story

Change the station name, blow it up and start from scratch. Sorry to all the Dave's out there, but the name Dave for a radio station = boring, hearing it over and over.

Mara talks way too much, and obviously the majority of people who don't listen to her agree. Yes, there are many people posting on this board positives about her ramblings, but it's got to stop, for it to get batter. It's my guess that most of them have let friendship and the fact that they may have met or know her, cloud their judgements. She could learn a few things from listening to how many other stations stick straight to the music. "But oh, we're Dave-FM, we have to be Different." You have been trying to be different for TOO LONG, AND ITS NOT WORKING!!!! Sorry, but its not like the days when you were an exclusive format and could get away with it.

She knows her stuff, no question, she just has to keep it to a minimal as in "Refrain from the need to think you should Entertain."

Just because she may have been the most listened to day part on the station doesn't mean that the station is, or she is successful with what's going on there.

When I first heard Dave, I was wondering if this was a "Jack" format because of the awkward name.

Would there be any room musically for Dave to move toward Modern AC (like the Click stations of Seattle and Dayton, or possibly the current version of the aforementioned Cities 97 [KTCZ]) without sounding too similar to Star?

See these recent columns by Mr. Ross: "Modern AC's Time Is When?" (http://www.radio-info.com/programming/25-plus/modern-acs-time-is-when) and "A Breakthrough For Alternative… Pop" (http://www.radio-info.com/programming/programming-music/a-breakthrough-for-alternative-pop).

This is EXACTLY what we DO NOT NEED.

Modern AC is a unique format that's not extremely common (it's not really been a success in Dayton, BTW) I think rhythmic-friendly CHR or classic hits would do much better...

Modern AC sounds like a warmed over AAA.

From what I can tell with my resources, they lost a few heavy users...meaning there was a PPM panel change. It is truly amazing how losing just 2 or 3 meters can screw a station over.

It was actually one household with 4 meters that all listened at least 8 hours a day. (very strange) That family was finally rotated out of the panel. Welcome to the world of PPM and the Arbitron monopoly.

The May ratings are in: WYAY: 2.9 6+, April they had 2.4.

It was not the news format, I forgot the 13th holiday release and Arbitron does not follow the calendar. 2.9 audience was abandoned. Somebody (WNNX or WZGC) should jump and double their 6+. I know 6+ does not sell but it would be hard (statically) to finish third or higher in a demo with only a 1.4 of 1.5.

It's hard to tell, but I feel like Modern AC would actually be the safest bet, since Star just jumped 5.2-5.9, and continues to be the #1 non-Urban music station in ATL - there have got to be a significant number of Star listeners that would rather hear Alternative-leaning Hot AC than pop-leaning Hot AC, at least enough to boost Dave up a couple points

The problem I see with rhythmic-friendly CHR is that both Q100 and Wild are down this month - it still might work, there just aren't numbers out there to prove it

70s Classic Hits (leaning pop) IMO isn't going to attract the necessary amount of advertising $$$

I also like the idea someone suggested of dayparting AAA during the workday and straight Alternative at night/weekends

I hate to keep complaining about this guy, but does anyone edit his columns? - Alternative radio didn't break Hootie & The Blowfish, nor did they even play them - Jewel was also barely played on Alternative (not sure where the "Jewel to Tool" thing is coming from) - Martin Page's song was called "In The House Of Stone And Light", it peaked at #8, so not sure what it had to do with any musical trends at the time

This really has some good points. I sit here and wonder if AAA and Alternative cancel each other out.

OMG! I actually successfully used the "quote" option on this site.

Congrats! How did you do it?
It used to work with me, but quit a couple of years ago. (I've reported it.) I have to copy & paste; that's why my "quotes" can't give credit to the one I'm quoting.

I have a Mac. Does anybody have a Mac and successfully using the "quote" function here?

(Please answer quickly so we can get back on topic.) 8)

The only way I can use the quote feature is to right click and open in a new tab. I use Chrome as my browser.

Are there income level break outs in PPM? Or is that extrapolated from zip codes?

I have heard that they are very low income people, because they pay you a big 300 per month, so the majority are black. Don't ridicule me for that, this is what
i was told by an employee at CC. So that being said, radio will never change here.

Like I said in the last thread, I wonder if Dave FM shot themselves in the foot doing away with the 80s weekends and a lot of the older music, as their numbers were up some last month...
