Dave Sholin moves to Bend, Oregon

Until he pays higher property taxes and higher state income taxes. Governments have to charge one way or another to provide services.

David is right. Property taxes are a bit high. I lived in Bend for 2 years. People even voted for more taxes! I think the pitch then was "we have to support emergency services". It's been several years since I left, so I don't remember state income taxes being higher than CA. No sales tax is a huge benefit, especially when purchasing a big ticket item, like a car or RV.

Your Duke will rent in Bend

When Pat retired he said at the time, "As Charles Kuralt used to say, `There's a bend in the road ahead -- I wonder what's around the bend?" To me that sounds like a hint as to where in Oregon he planned to build his retirement home.

Or he could have moved to North Bend, a totally different town, on the coast near Coos Bay.

Oregon has no state sales tax, it only cost $77 every 2 years to renew your automobile tags. A nice 3-4 bed house 2000 sq ft would run around
$250,000 -$275,,000 in The Bend area.

I don't think people are butting into Sholin's personal life as they are monitoring other people's career choices so they can make the correct decision if they face the same situation.

(I bet lots of trucks went to North Bend instead of Bend by mistake over the years.)

Lol. If you know Oregon, you'll understand this.

Anyway, maybe a nice place for Dave to move, and also move into a less stressful atmosphere. As mentioned, Bend is a nice area too, and cheaper to live, as was mentioned in a previous post.

$77 every 2 years? That's terrible! It was $15 a year when I lived there. ;)

It only costs 17 bucks here in Nevada to get a 4 year driver's license renewal.

250K for a house in Bend?...In the Las Vegas area that would buy a mini mansion.

Yeah, summers are hot but everythings air conditioned. The rest of the year is great. ie: 70 today under sunny skies.

Jerry Gordon ..Jack B. Show, Salem radio network

Anyone who might want to hear Dave at his new gig, his first show is likely to be Monday afternoon drive on KSJJ in Bend and it can be streamed.

Was almost 70 here in Sacramento the past few days. Might sprinkle a bit overnight, but we need more than a spritzle. We need a real good drink. Overall, nice weather here, but Bend is nice too. Some snow in the winter, but nice summers. Think Dave will like it. Looking forward to hearing him online on Monday, if indeed he is on.

Sacramento could learn a lot from Nevada and Oregon (he says as his car falls into a pothole on yet another broken California highway).

I actually like the deserts of Nevada and California. I could live there, if I had a six figure salary to support me. 8)

After living in Bend for over 2 years, I know I could live there again. The Summers are hot. The winters are cold. I just wish I had enjoyed the recreational opportunities much more: skiing, hiking more...

We got more than a sprinkle in the Sierra Foothills from the last storm. It was a gully washer. We lost power twice last night. This after no rain since yesterday morning. Thanks PG&E! ;)

Well Steven, since I do weather reports for radio, I do know how things differ within a few miles, even here in California. Sorry your power went down, but SMUD appears to be a better power provider than PG&E, and least in my opinion, so glad I live in an all electric location under SMUD. Had only two power outages in the past 10 years. One during a big storm several years ago, and one during a particularly hot period last summer. Had PG&E when I lived in the Bay Area, but rarely had an outage there in 25 years too. Maybe this is something to blame on the weather, and not necessarily the provider.

By the way, pay me six figures, and I'll move anywhere. I don't care if it is the desert, mountains or whatever. Alaska is not out of the question for six figures. Lol!

I love Bend, and the summers are not as hot as Sacramento, where I currently live, so the weather there isn't that bad. Just need the AC in the summer and the heat in the winter. Shopping is acceptable, though not an LA, NY, Chicago or San Fran (for that matter Sacramento), but what can't you get on the Internet if you really want it and are willing to wait for it to get to you. Lots of recreation, as was mentioned, in the Bend area too.

Now, will be tuning into Dave on Monday, if that is his first day, at some point during his time slot.

Dave's on-air debut has been moved to Thursday.
Check him out in Afternoon Drive @ KSJJ in Bend, Oregon and of course it will be streamed.
