"Asked for money AFTER adding the record"...so as Spitzer says...its not payola he's admitting, its extortion. Unbelievable.

Re: Universal Money

You know, not that it didn't happen, but it used to be more easy going. PD: "Yeah, we're adding your record." Rep: "Great, Is there anything we can do to 'say thanks.'" PD: "I could sure use 1000 t-shirts..." or; "I need to get my van re-logoed" or "Can we get a 'presents' when they're in town?" But corporations got used to that extra source of income and it became expected. Greed killed the goose that laid the golden egg.

I did. Two conclusions I draw from this:

1) Dave Universal's bosses placed him in a compromising position.

2) David Field is a bitch for declining to comment.

You just wonder what's going to happen when the IRS steps in and says "pay us or you're going to be spinning tunes in Attica and find out the real meaning of "plugola."

Entercom has plenty of 'splainin' to do, too. It's no surprise the Entercom brass didn't have anything to say to ABC News, afterall, they know that anything they say "may be used against them" in court... unlike DU who seems ready and willing to talk to anyone who'll listen.

BTW, Isn't this license renewal year in New York state? Hmmmmm. Wouldn't take much to challenge those licenses. Window's open til May, isn't it?</font>

Wrong Conclusions

Word in the market - from sources close to the situation - is that Dave didn't need any help in finding "compromising positions". A LOT of perks, like Yankee games & football tickets, went to Dave personally and NOT to the station. Extorting freebies from the record companies is his version of "building relationships".

No, David Field is a LOT smarter that DU(h) about keeping his mouth shut. DU(h) made himself the Payola Poster Boy by running his mouth in the trades and in the local fishwrap. Ever heard the name John McRae? No, not since he got fired by Infinity in Rochester in November 2004. That's because McRae was smart enough to shut up and stay out of the spotlight.
