David Gow Buys the Translator

You introduce irrelevant and outdated information into a particular discussion.
What exactly is irrelevant or outdated?
Your assertions that translators may not be operating legally in the Houston Metro Area are somewhat unclear.
That's not my assertion.

I wrote what I wrote, but I did not accuse anyone of anything at any point. That would be against this board's rules and can result in a ban. My intention isn't to get the thread shut down, so I try my best to refrain from making baseless accusations.

Having said that, anyone with a basic HS diploma would know that something(s) may smell a bit rancid on the FM dial.
If the allegations of translators operating with excessive power and violating laws were accurate, why has the FCC not taken the decisive step of shutting them down entirely? They been at Wellsfargo and Chase 8 times last year with surprise visits.
The FCC was not immune to the 2008 recession. The agency never fully recovered and enforcement took a hit. That's been widely accepted by everyone in the industry.
I do not have a background in engineering, but I believe that with either 99 watts or 250 watts, it should be sufficient to cover Houston effectively from downtown.
Laws of physics be damned?

I appreciate the assertive and superior manner in which you communicate. You have chosen to disregard numerous comments I made specifically regarding KMAZ LP's broadcasting with 11 watts and its excellent coverage . I concur with David's assessment that Houston is a large market to cover, however, despite its size, stations such as KMAZ-LP with 11 watts, 104.5, 106.1, 105.3, and 92.5 have performed admirably. I think funny that you may cite the excuse that the Fcc is currently understaffed. The FCC has taken action to close down a number of translators in response to valid complaints in the past in Houston before. If you would like to proceed, we could converse in private as I believe our gibberish may be becoming dull for the others folks. It was a pleasure conversing with you, BamaTx.

Superior in which way? I haven't been anything but polite. I don't believe I've carried myself in a disrespectful manner.

With all due respect, you take issue with the allegations that have been made against translators in the past by some users (again, not me). But now you ask me to comment on an allegation you've made without providing any concrete evidence that this actually happened?

You can't have your cake and eat it too.

Some of those translators have had more format changes in their short lifespan than KLOL has had in the past 50 years.

All things considered, "admirably" is a relative term. Especially when there may be other factors at play that could change the financial status of each translator. We just don't know and cannot openly speculate. But we are all smart enough to turn on our radios across the metro area and connect the dots.
I think funny that you may cite the excuse that the Fcc is currently understaffed.
They are.

You have to remember that the agency regulates more than just "radio". There are bigger fish to fry and resources need to be carefully allotted.

"Close down a number"? There are only two cases I can recall where a prominent translator was taken off the air. And in both cases, it was due to complaints raised by neighboring broadcasters and not action started by an FCC field agent.

It's a public forum. The entire point is to have a discussion where others can join in and opine (within the bounds of this board's rules, of course).

Let’s drop all the arguments over translator compliance issues, which have been discussed to death on this forum. It’s only going to get the thread shut down…again.

Things to watch for:

FCC approval and consummation of the sale of K223DH from Centro Cristiana de Vida Eterna to SDK Franco, who will then immediately apply to flip it to Gow Translators.

Approval of the sale of K223CW to Gow Translators. The APA states that closings on the two translators do not have to be at the same time.

Whether or not a separate sale of KGOW is submitted to the FCC. I would be surprised if current programmer Viet Media doesn’t buy it outright, as they did with KNGO in DFW. I would think this happens before any sale of KFNC.

Announcement of a sale of KFNC, which probably won’t happen until Gow has the two translators in hand. IMHO there is an 80% chance it goes to a religious operator, which simplifies the translator coverage considerations.

What happens next for KGBC.

I would think the KFNC staff is aware of the sale speculation, but without any confirmation from management they are putting their noses to the grindstone while this all plays out.

There's enough twists and turns in that particular divorce to facilitate another verse or three in the Tammy Wynette song.

I figure that will all depend on any objections that may arise from the Guevara side in SDK Franco acting as the middleman...err woman in ultimately transferring K223DH to Gow. We'll see how that goes.

I believe they are still paying off the Hammonds for the 1480 deal. Are they capable or prepared to assume another note?

VCY America coming to a Houston-Galveston-Beaumont-Port Arthur receiver near you.
What happens next for KGBC.
Dade Moore hooks his iPhone back up to the input jack again? Stay tuned, another hour long commercial free set of Duran Duran, ELO, and Crowded House...coming up next, and remember folks. Keep Galveston Beaches Clean.

Someone will lease 1540 again, and it'll be business as usual for the Arangos. KGBC still has its own translator attached to it, so there is some potential value left to it for someone who can't afford to get their programming on the air by an outright purchase.

I was going to ask. So that 101.7 translator is essentially “stuck” to KGBC right?

Is there any documentation that KMAZ was/is running 11 watts?
4 years ago or so they go a warning for running 25 to 50 watts. They were running more power so they signal could have better range over the other junk 102.5 lower power stations that should have never been allowed.

Let me share a little insight... NAA then i'll get the topic shut down and i dont want that.

Dade no longer works for Arango or would have access to KGBC

Like always, I am on the air at KXXF until 10 cst and I get a text I am being talked about over here with all the Fun stuff. LOL Good morning everyone and crazy you mentioned Arango. I talked to him yesterday. I have not done any work for him since 2013. What is funny a lot of this stuff you guys are talking about has a some truth to it and some not at all like KFNC. I was there last week. I do very little engineering work any longer and do not care to. Have a good one Dade www.freefm.fm KXXF

Care to elaborate? The sale listing for what appears to be the Gow stations is still there on the Griffin Media Brokers site as of this morning.

Gow denials of a sale should be taken with a Morton’s box full of salt; they are not going to admit to anything as they need to keep the radio side of the business running normally until a formal announcement is made.

I think we’ve all seen plenty of examples of rumors being denied, only to have things go down exactly as the rumors said they would.

Guess i was right once again...
Sdk franco burned a few bridges when it comes to leasing a HD channel, so AM was the only option. Comes to the picture KGBC whose only purpose will be to make 92.5 legal while the stations are sold.

Man this is crazy as long as all of you guys have been around radio. I think most everything in Houston and other places is for sale if someone is crazy enough to pay for what these CORPORATE people did years back like 20 times the billing. LOL. call me sometime. I will tell you anything you want to know if it is not some private stuff that I am SUPPOSE to keep shut up about. What is funny I had the Old KXXF Beaumont listed on Dave Garlands page for 4 years wide open and people use to call me about it and I said sure money talks. Have a good one and good to hear from you all. We all laughed when Country Legends 97.1 went off the air. People claiming they did this and all kinds of stuff. EMF Engineer, Myself Dade Moore and My Son the other Dade Moore there are 3 Dade Moore's my father . EMF and all of us put Tubby on the air. We killed the audio from the station, Great Idea and then Scottie Rice, Myself Dade Moore and My 24 year old Son Dade Moore played him saying here is one more from the road from the 2000ft tower in Shepard north of Cleveland, Texas with Marty Robbins some memories just want die and Radio 1 had no idea this was going to happen. In the mean time while that was going on I was on the on the phone with former engineers for Cox Radio Jed Wilkinson and Andy Hudack very long time friends taking pictures of everything at the tower site they had taken care of for many years and sending them down Messenger to them. Fun stuff in the world. As far as KGBC Goes. Beats me what in the world they are going to do with that today. I got it let's play Elvis music on it backwards and it might get someone to tune in.

Yup. And I had a logger rolling deep in the fringe while I was out of town so I could email a copy to Tubby’s son who was on the road and couldn’t fly in to hear it himself… The folks on Post Oak had no idea what went down, but Big Tom loved hearing Marty Robbins. :)

I’m not hearing ESPN 92.5 anymore. Anyone near downtown that can hear it?
