Rock 101 was already dying a slow and painful death before they came along. Bad management and programming did that format in.

That doesn't explain why 93.7 is still around. Could they possibly play any more of the same music over and over? Someone explain to me who wouldn't want a classic rock station like this to expand the playlist? Why play the same 3 or 4 songs from each artist over and over? Who is demanding this? Not the listeners for sure.

What? Tweak the playlist? Are you crazy man? People only want to hear songs they know on the radio... Long live the "Stairway to Hotel Freebird" crowd!! That's the Arrow's bread and butter. Surely even that demo is shrinking... It truly boggles the mind how pencil-thin the playlist has become. Of course people give the same argument to the Classic Country station, but the rock listeners were always more album-oriented delving past the 3 or 4 songs beat into that dead horse... Heck, even a group like ZZ Top has so many great songs from those umpteen old albums from the 70's that haven't seen radio airplay since the old 101. Why play something like that when we could just play the 3 or 4 we heard yesterday or the day before that?

I think it may have been Memphis maybe a few years back that had a station who's slogan was "classic rock that REALLY rocks!" competing against an Arrow clone type station. Now that would be something for Houston. Like the fondly remembered Buzzsaw station on Sirius. I'll be the first to admit that the numbers are pretty good for the Arrow, but when you're the only game in town with that angle.... Hmmmm.

Remember those Sunday afternoons when you'd clean out the garage and put the RADIO on to help make the chore more bearable with great tunes blaring? Who the hell does that now? Putting on the Arrow now would just make the job worse...

Amen. For example, RUSH has 19 studio albums, 10 of which are 25 years or older (classic rock?) - yet their entire playlist for RUSH is about 4 songs. When is the last time you heard "Turn it on" from Genesis, "This planet is on fire" from Sammy Hagar, "In the Dark" from Billy Squire, "Rock and Roll Machine" from Triumph, "Roller" from April Wine, or any Judas Priest, or any Night Ranger, or ..... (fill in the blank)...

Honestly, I think think radio has slit its own throat in that respect. Anybody who gives a crap about the music has moved on to other mediums by now... I mean why bother? Its really a clue that radio is on its way down the tubes. It obviously doesn't give a crap about the average listener who is tired of the corporate playlist. Its time to think outside the playlist since the rules have changed.

Which actually makes it more baffling - why wouldn't they try to compete with these other mediums?

Theres no need to do market research for a show that has continuously done well in the same market for the last eight years. Clear Channel is well aware of that too to keep them around. Most of W&Js run has been on CC stations.

Sammy haggar has a new band called Chickenfoot with Joe Satriani Micheal Anthony and Chad Smith. Now since all these guys come from 20year old bands would they be classic or new rock? And what radio station would you hear them on in Houston

It would be new rock, not classic rock. As for what radio station might play it? You'll probably have a better chance of hearing it here: http://www.sirius.com/siriusinternetradio

Old bands (or guys) with new music = ZERO radio airplay in Houston. Even tried and true bands like Rush, AC/DC and Styx are ignored completely. At least you can see the videos on VH-1 Classic/Current. Anybody remember the old Z107 slogan they tried for a while, "It doesn't have to be old to be a classic!" Then they'd play a Damn Yankees song... Which was new music at the time. That slogan might be worth a try again for the Arrow, but then I came to my senses. They'll never do that.

That is because the radio scene in Houston is just plain boring all the way around... My wife Listens to KRBE... Where yo can hear Beyonce 3 times an hour.. usually the same song too... ::)

Now that Dean and Rog are off the Arrow, I won't listen to that station anymore, W&J are just plain retarded...

XM Radio should send the Arrow a gift. I finally had enough and signed up. Haven't listed to air radio since.

It's mandatory-meeting and CCH thumb-drive time, again. I just heard a rumor that Clear Channel is going through the chain, slashing Music Director jobs. Evidently, with the advent of National Programming, those positions and skillsets are now considered to be redundant. Any confirmation on this?
