Decade channels

Is that an improving variety of 60's music I hear on the 60's on 6? Just Asking!
I was about to ask the same question; over the last 3 weeks or so, I've noticed some very subtle changes. (not enough changes, fast enough..but things seems to be going in the right direction)

I've have heard some of the more obscure songs that I hadn't heard since last November. ("Meet Me at Midnight, Mary" is one example).

Perhaps., Sirius/XM is reluctlantly listening and taking baby steps....... or maybe the people on the air/voice-tracking are tired of playing and hearing the same short play-list.

One of the beauties (?) of voicetracking is that you don't have to listen to the songs you're "playing," just record bits of stale generic between-songs patter and let the computer insert the music later. That's how the MTV Relics on 8 can mail in their airshifts from home rather than put in a day's work in Manhattan.

It's also philosophy. Sirius always concentrated on the music. Yes it wasn't all of the 60's hits they played but it was the well known ones. XM wanted to bring you back to the 60's with jingles and other things and they played all the hits of the 60's.

Who wants to hear the same krap over and over again? Get rid of the hits, put on the more obscure stuff. i stopped listening to Decades because it now sounds like FM radio which now also sucks and has sucked for 20 years. They're not going to get anywhere imitating commercial radio that's for sure.

Congratulations. You've just killed Sirius XM. Oldies is a mainstream FM format and diluting the familiar hits with too much "obscure" music -- or, as you suggest, getting rid of the hits completely -- will drive off the mainstream oldies listener, who bought satellite radio to hear the hits of his youth without commercials, not to hear songs he barely noticed, or might not even have been played in his area, when they were current.

Sirius XM is playing 800 to 900 songs on '60s on 6. In most FM markets, oldies stations have transitioned to "classic hits," which means they've had to slash the number of '60s titles they play in order to jam more '70s and '80s music into their 500-song playlists. Those listeners are only hearing 200 or so '60s songs on FM these days; they're overjoyed to hear secondary hits by big artists like "Sweet Cherry Wine" and "Thank the Lord for the Night Time" again on Sirius XM, even if you think they're being run into the ground.

Why don't you all take a listen to the 60's On 6 right now and hear Terry "Motormouth" Young He's Live, He's Rockin', and He's On Fire. The new PD starts next Tuesday and it will be interesting to hear what changes he will make to the 60's on 6. I believe that Phlash Phelps has been programing the channel since the other guy left the service and Phlash has really been doing a great job too.

You want to hear some obscure music? Listen to the 50's on 5, now that channel is really playing some obscure music from the 50's. BTW: I heard the song "I Heard Trumpets" by The Tokens today on the 60's on 6 now how obscure is that? The Rennissance is coming for the 60's on 6. Stay Tuned....

We need an all oldies purist format. Nothing but flipsides, oldies you find at used flea markets, and everything that bubbled under the "Hot 100'. Just to hear something different...that's what we need!!!

Bring back the Top 6 on the hour!

Looks like Lou Simon's making some decent moves. Few new songs, reverb's back, new jingles, and Terry and Phlash sound more lively than they have in months.

Also, RadioStarOne, where are you hearing a new PD is coming to 60's on 6? That sort of scares me!

If Lou Simon is the new guy he doesn't start until this Tuesday 9-15-2009. I didn't know his name so I said "PD" sorry for the confusion. Phlash is adding all the new stuff so far. The music variety on the 50's on 5 is really W I D E! and seems to be getting even W I D E R everyday! Could the same treatment be in store for the 60's on 6? Stay Tuned! The Switch Is On! ???

In the event 60's on 6 does make notable improvements to its playlist, I'll reinstate my subscription.

Have you told them that?

Yes Sir! In fact, right after cancelling I sent a letter to the PD of the station and mentioned I had cancelled the service and outlined my reasons why (emphasizing the repetition on the 60s as my main reason).

As of this posting I am, once again, a subscriber to the service and have done so based on the posts in this thread about recent song adds to the Ch.6 playlist and the possibility of more improvements to the playlist in the future (so far, I have heard them play a couple of tracks I haven't heard on the channel in a while).

I email them all the time, but I've never gotten a response.
