December Ratings

WBAP, even with the FM simulcast, set a new all-time historic low.

Air 1 KYDA set a new high for itself.

KRLD is even lower, at 1 share:

Correct... moved from 1.0-1.1. The 1.0 was last month was its all-time low mark. The 1.6 for WBAP is a new all-time low for them.

93.3 needs to go back to playing music instead of all the talk.
I enjoy the classic rock format they have on HD2. They could do that on the main FM with little overhead. Would a syndicated format be any different (or less local) than a lot of the other stations that are voice tracked? I kid, of course. But I do enjoy Classic Rock 93.3!

Or a format that aligns better with the demographics of a limited signal...

If they put on a decent adult R&B format, it would would reach more of the target audience than rimshots KZMJ and KRNB do. Or if they put on a decent Spanish-language format, it would immediately cover more of the target audience than KNOR, KBOC, KFZO, KZZA, but that isn't really in the Cumulus wheelhouse.

in the case of the ratings of 93.3FM/820 AM and 1080 AM, i think it's a combo of the older listeners are dying off and the younger listeners are experience burnout in political talk or in this case "the complaining, whining, B****ing and moaning of all the things the liberals are doing to our country, state and area" and "Bragging about Donald Trump winning the election" in the days after 2024 election as well as the pushing of conservative political propaganda that AM Talk radio has become as of late. that and Rush Limbaugh has been dead for almost 4 years now.

and as for The Eagle, the station flipping back to rock might have been a bad idea for them still holding the rights to Dallas Mavs basketball, maybe if it don't work this time, just flip it to a format that would fit with Basketball, which i think a hip-hop station of some kind could work or even move the Black Information Network to 97.1 for DFW or just create a simulcast of 1190 AM on there.

The music on the Eagle sucks playing the same shit over and over again

I suspect that after The Freak debacle, they will be content to stay with the Rock/Mavs format and ratings around a 1.5 or so.
Flipping costs money. It might cost listeners for a while too. At this point I suspect they are just looking to play it safe.

KRLD-AM really should go back to all-news, but I know that's expensive and the lower ratings with much lower cost may mean a higher profit. I just don't like what I hear.

Maybe a bilingual AC could be an option for Cumulus on 93.3. That might be a way for them to get some experience with Hispanic-targeted programming.

I think any young listeners interested in political talk listen to podcasts now.

KEGL needs to dump the Woody Show, get a local morning show, and go with music for the afternoon drive. It seems like every time I tune into KEGL they are talk. Ben and Skin could have their show in the evening alongside with a good amount of music. I’m not going to miss voicetracked Klinger.

Getting in that area requires a completely different sales force.

The Woody show was designed for alternative. However, I get the sense that iHeart is about to launch a rock morning show in the new year.

Something is certainly going on.

It's telling that KERA has a larger audience share than WBAP, KRLD-AM, KLIF, and KSKY combined.

Good point. If Cumulus decided to go for a Hispanic-focused format, they might as well go for a tried and true variation of Regional Mexican. I don’t think they are in a position to add the talent and sales force required for that right now.
