Dees and Seacrest

Their charts are different, but similar in that they are both about two weeks behind Mediabase's reporting.

If anyone knows their guidelines for reporting recurrents, I'd like to know...please.

Two weeks behind? I was wondering why I heard "Blow" in the top 5 on Sunday. That said, what possible excuse is there for being so far behind in the monitored era? Even Casey was only one week behind R&R in the 90's.

I think they would use there own charts because if they were useing the same charts they be copy each other and plus rick dees is half gone he not even on z104. in madison and wifc in wausau any more it's ryan seacrest now days and he gets more into it then ricks dees he half gone I don't even listen to rick dees because he half gone now days

I guess Rick Dees is half gone?

I think the "countdown erra" is over/has been over. It seems like at least AT40 is Hollywood news and oh yeah here are 40 songs our consultants said we should play based on some chart we partially liked.

I haven't heard Dees in years.

I agree Rick Dees is past his prime. I loved listening to him has a kid/adult but it's time to let the top 40 countdown go.

I like the Dees' countdown in that he styles it like Casey Kasem did where he gives a bit of info for each artist and song like telling where they're from or sharing a quick story, along with giving the position of the song from the previous week's chart. You can actually learn something about the song or artist from Dees' show.

Seacrest styles his show more like a Hollywood gossip show where celebrity interviews take the forefront, and the countdown is stuck in more like an afterthought. He rarely gives any relevant info about a particular artist. The music is secondary.

The jingles used on the Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 sound more like the ones Casey used to use.

Dees countdown was dropped from alot of CC stations when Ryan Searcast took over AT40. A few Hot AC stations airs Rick Dees countdown show. CHR KMXV in Kansas City airs Dee's Top 40 show Sunday mornings as well on Hot AC KLZR in Lawerance,Topeka KS Saturday or Sunday nights. AT40 use to air on KMXV but when Searcrast On Air Show came to KC on KKSN 99.7 they picked up AT40. Now AT40 and Searcrast are gone after the flip to GenX and now The Point.

I don't see why AT40 can't bring back the long distance dedication. There is time for that and the Subway new song preview segment. Especially now that we have Facebook, Twitter and text you don't have to send a long letter anymore. Heck, even have a sponsor if you want:

"AT 40 Long Distance Dedication; brought to you in part by Trident Gum. Cool your breath with Trident gum."

There is no reason that the AT 40 should not be running a long distance dedication, especially when they can factor in social media to the segment.

Could it be that the Long Distance Dedication segment is outdated?
Nowadays you have syndicated love shows from the likes of Delilah that are better suited for it.

When the LDD started off it was at a time when AT 40 was one of those rare shows that could be heard throughout the US and around the world. Nowadays, as you said, there's the internet, and through Social Media you can reach out to that Australian chick you met while you were on holiday in Greece ;)

If I remeber AT40 didnt air in Los Angles for quite some time when Casey Kasem was hosting. KIIS FM always favored Rick Dees Weekly Top 40 on the weekends and the Rythnm Countdown w Ellen K on sundays. AT20 aired on KBIG Sundays mornings for a long time

Yes, but you can't dedicate a song on Facebook.

I think the decision was made when Seacrest took over in 2004 that they wouldn't do any of Casey's old segments like the LDD, #1's on the other charts, announcing radio stations that air the show, etc. They wanted a fresh approach as Casey was perceived as outdated and didn't want new listeners to associate Seacrest with the old show.
