> Can anyone fill me in on the original genesis of the series.

1: "The Kids of Degrassi Street" (CBC, 1979-86, 26 episodes)
2: "Degrassi Junior High" (CBC/PBS, 1987-89, 42 episodes)
Several actors who appeared in later episodes of Kids of Degrassi Street worked on this series, playing different characters.
3: "Degrassi High" (CBC/PBS, 1989-91, 28 episodes)
4: "Degrassi Talks" (CBC/PBS, 1992, six episodes)
Using plotlines and scenes from Degrassi High, the series' stars, as themselves, talked to Canadian teens going through similar life situations.
5: the made-for-television film "School's Out" (CBC/PBS, 1992) tied up the original Degrassi storylines with a graduation/summer backdrop.
6: "Degrassi: the Next Generation" (CTV/Noggin, 2001-present, 100 episodes)
The central character, Emma Nelson, is the daughter of Christine (Spike) Nelson and step-daughter of Archie (Snake) Simpson, both characters from DJH and DH.
