Delilah gone from My 102.5

If you want to see pages, I'd reccomend the thread on the Chicago board about WLS-AM/FM being sold from around a year ago. Going strong at 40 pages.

I don't care much for John Tesh, either. Way too many talk breaks and commercials. The day the last affiliate ditches Delilah (which is coming, in due time) will be a day for celebration.

Well, the thread title probably could be changed. It's become sort of the catch all for all things MY. Continue ignoring if you wish.

On the MY topic, actually seems like they're dialing back the 80s as well (which I didn't mind as long as they were more upbeat). Sounding better and better. And, IMO, less female-centric.

Agree, they are really improving. I wonder if the more conservative sound started to wear on their ratings in the winter?

MY has added "Glad You Came" by The Wanted. It seems like they're playing "We Are Young" more, as well. They have definitely moved away from "aggressive AC" and more in to "conservative Hot AC", IMO.

Think they also added the new Daughtry single. And, yes, they are playing Fun more. I also have been hearing Goyte. I mentioned this in a CHR thread, but I still haven't heard "Somebody That I Used to Know" on B93.7. I'm sure they're playing it (someone said it was like #23 on their playlist, which I find hard to believe), but it's refreshing to hear something on MY that I haven't heard on B already.

To me, and yes people like Scooter have different opinions, one of the more positive changes has been what feels like a move away from strictly targeting a female audience. When they first switched, it was song after song of Pink, Katy Perry, Lady Gaga. They still play them now, but there's much greater variety and more "male oriented" songs. Not saying that they're not still going after a female audience. I just hear more of a balance now.

I agree that they're not so female-oriented - I mean, how much more female-oriented are they than B93.7? Hot 98.1? WSSL 100 (I don't listen to them, but a lot of females I know do)? Not really any more, IMO. Definitely not as much as Magic 98.9. The only stations, like I say, that are "just" for males are 93.3 and 101.1, and the rest are probably split. Yes, MY is somewhat female-oriented, but I can see how there is room for males to enjoy it, also. Especially given the choices in this market. They've made little improvements here and there, that have really made a big difference for the better overall.

I've heard Gotye once or twice on B. They're probably playing it a lot at night and late night. Channel 96.1 in Charlotte plays it quite frequently. I don't care much for "Glad You Came", but it does show that they're more willing to play 'daring' tracks than before.

Yeah, "Glad You Came" didn't leave much of an impression on me either. Don't care too much for the new Daughtry track either. But I'm just glad to hear new "adds". After the months and months of very few adds, hopefully, they'll keep up at a better pace now.

Ah, but don't get me started on Chicago events. If it's pages you want Fantastic Word Game is the place. ;D

Just had to keep this thread going :) with another weekly report....

Still an occassional slow misfire that doesn't quite fit (Journey's "Open Arms" for instance) but overall sounding good this week.

Plays of Gotye and Fun. both seem to have picked up keeping them "hip". Heard both Gotye and Fun. several times today. And with non-currents they've played things like Blink 182, Snow Patrol, The Verve and the Killers just this afternoon. Even though they had the P!nk overkill at the beginning, it's a little shocking to hear them pick the not-so-subtle "U + Ur Hand" to put in their current playlist. That's far from a "conservative" hit.

Little surprises like that keep me listening....

Really, guys?  A never-ending discussion of which song MYI plays or doesn't play?  Buy a freakin' iPod.

Really, why do you even care? This is a forum? Isn't it? A place to discuss things like maybe...a radio station?

If you don't want to read the discussion, then don't click on the thread. Pretty simple concept, huh?

I have an iPod. I still like radio. And while I and others thought MY was doing a pretty lousy job at first with their flip, they're improving greatly and don't feel it's out of place to give them credit for it.

If you take a look around, there's plenty of more useless threads in this forum. Do I care? No. People can talk about whatever they want (granted it should be about RADIO).

Take a look at another thread about a flip: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=164351.0. But I guess it was okay for that thread to have 16 pages. And there's plenty more that are a lot longer in other areas of the forum. So get off your high horse and just don't bother posting or reading if you don't give a crap.

Agree, yeah, it's sad that this is all that's going on in this market to discuss, but it's better than nothing. The purpose of these boards is to discuss radio which is what is going on.
I didn't see any complaints about the 92.5 The Box thread, either, or the countless discussions that go on about stations on other sections of the site. Nothing wrong with this thread.

I have Pandora and an MP3 player. However, I still enjoy terrestrial radio much more.

Mediabase finally moved WMYI from AC to Hot AC this past week.
I think they're sounding good, too, save for the occasional (albeit rare) 80s song like "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "Open Arms", etc that doesn't fit. They've come a long way -- still not a fan of Zac & Marne, but everything else sounds pretty good. They're actually living up to what they claim to be now.

Interestingly enough, after hearing "U + Ur Hand" numerous times Monday and Tuesday, I haven't heard it since I wrote my last post (but have heard plenty of other P!nk songs). Wonder if they did get some complaints from their more conservative listeners and decided to pull it from the playlist.

I know when the song first came out some stations refused to play it so that's why I was surprised to hear it on MY in the first place.

I have been streaming "MY" for the past few days... They sound really good, but for the life of me just when things click along all of a sudden there is REO Speed Wagon from 1981 that just puts the breaks on a good sound... Don't get me wrong I am sure it is being done to keep some of the older demo's, but for me when the flow is moving along really good some of those "Head Scratching" songs just make me go WTH... Atleast they sound a lot fresher then what they did... To bad they have not gone a direction like WMIA down in Mia has gone where it is a really good rhythmic AC. CC1

I agree Carroll. The "new" MY is light years better than it was as AC, but those early 80s tracks really throw it off track (although they've greatly improved with it). I hear "Centerfold", "You Shook Me All Night Long", and "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" sometimes, and they just don't fit and throw it off. I'd prune the 80s way, way back (stick to the smash hits from the era, new wave, and harder-rocking tracks, play one an hour or so) or ditch that era totally and just cede that part of the audience to Magic and Chuck FM - and focus on being a more adult alternative to B-93.7. That might help their numbers a little.

I give them major props for putting "Somebody That I Used To Know" in to power rotation and giving it attention, they're playing it way more than B...

That was one song I did hear them play while streaming them... If I was arm chair PD I would ditch the 80's, but I am sure they are hanging on to them for the top end of the 25-54 demo... Funny thing is I also streamed The Pulse on Sirius and to me they have the perfect sound with most of the music coming from the 2000's today with a few late 90's songs thrown in... To me that is a good sound for a Hot AC station and would be curious to see how it would work in the upstate... CC

Yep, I agree with the occassional song that just doesn't fit in. But if you had listened a couple of months ago, Carroll, they were MUCH worse about the way they mixed in the 80s and even an occassional 70s song...yet still claiming to be "fresh". About a month ago, they seemed to kick things up a notch. There's a lot less '80s than there was and a lot more newer music. I agree with carolinaradio, though, that even if they kept 80s they should stick with new wave and more upbeat rock (REO Speedwagon or even Journey's "Open Arms" do NOT fit in).

All-in-all though, MY has been sounding very good the past few weeks. A fair amount of new adds and, yes, love hearing Gotye. Funny to say that they're playing a song I consider somewhat cutting-edge more than B does.

Wanted to add one minor annoyance to this thread. Overtime, MY has broadened somewhat their scope of hits from the '90s. But I wish they'd change up some of the songs they play by certain groups. For instance, they play The Cure, but only play "Friday I'm In Love", why not play something like "Just Like Heaven"? And for R.E.M., they only play "Losing My Religion", why not "It's the End of the World"? I picked those in particular because they've been on their playlist, from what I remember, since the initial flip.

It's different for "one hit wonders", but particularly a group like R.E.M. had more than one hit. And, to a lesser extent, so did The Cure (as far as mainstream hits, but "Just Like Heaven" is still a staple even in clubs). Not a big deal as I've mentioned that they've improved greatly -- particularly with today's hits. Just always bothers when any station keeps older songs in their playlist without bothering to mix them up a bit.
