Delilah gone from My 102.5

even if they kept 80s they should stick with new wave and more upbeat rock (REO Speedwagon or even Journey's "Open Arms" do NOT fit in).
Not even "Don't Let Him Go" or "I Do' Wanna Know"?

Ah, nah, not in my book. Heck, I sort of liked REO Speedwagon and Journey growing up (when I was like 10-12). For the most part, they make me want to puke now. I can deal with something like "Separate Ways", but even that still doesn't sound right IMO on a Hot AC.

Just my opinion.

I listened to them a little while ago and heard "Crazy For You" by Madonna.
-1.

I don't think I've ever heard "Love Song" by The Cure, either. To be honest, I've never had much of a problem with the 90s music they've played. It has always been consistent with what a Hot AC-formatted station should play. That was always the only era they got somewhat "right" until recently. They've gone so far with the newer material (which is GOOD), that I wouldn't even try to hang on to or attract Magic listeners with 80s music. I would honestly focus more on B-93.7 and playing adult CHR tracks that they don't play or play little of.

I like 80s music but will listen to that era on Chuck FM or Magc's 80s lunch.

"Crazy for You"? With all the uptempo Madonna songs they could do?

I could almost listen to that one. I can't remember if that's the one with the nasty introduction. No, wait, that's "Live to Tell".

Yeah, heard "Crazy For You" as well. Agree that they could just let go of the 80s completely. Even though I'm a "child of the 80s", if they insist on playing the lazier, "sleepier" tracks from the decade, they might as well just get rid of it as it certainly doesn't help the "fresh" sound.

As for the '90s, yes, on the whole, they have been pretty good. Heck, before MY's flip, it was rare that I did hear The Cure, R.E.M. or U2 in the area. Just nit picking.

They would be wise just to stick with going after the more adult listeners of B93.7 who don't want to hear "all the hits" - just the ones that don't make us cringe. And they've been doing a pretty bang up job of that lately. Hope they keep it up.

EDIT: Wanted to qualify that "child of the 80s" statement. I was a teen in the 80s...didn't want anyone to think I was that young. :)

I don't think I've ever heard them play anything by the Gin Blossoms, either, except for "Hey Jealousy." That's the only song by them that some other Hot AC's will play, also.
The last time anybody probably played the R.E.M./U2/The Cure stuff was Charlie FM.

I was pleasantly surprised to see they added One Direction "What Makes You Beautiful" and the new Maroon 5 single "Payphone." That is certainly a far cry from 6 months ago. I heard them play The Romantics and Steve Perry in a 30 minute timeframe just a little while ago, though. Yikes!

I've actually have heard R.E.M., U2 and the Cure just this week all on MY. The funny thing is that I've still only heard "Losing My Religion" and "It's Friday I'm in Love" for R.E.M. and The Cure. But for some reason they've gone gangbusters on U2 this week. I've heard "Beautiful Day", "With or Without You", "Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" and "In the Name of Love" -- again all just this week.

Not sure what prompted the U2 boost.

I'm too glad to see more new adds, but yeah, they still do make the occassional flub like Steve Perry (The Romantics I can deal with as I consider that at least upbeat 80s). Don't know why they think they need to hang onto some of those songs. They sound great 95% of the time, which makes things like that pop out even more as being odd.

Oh, that was my mistake, I meant the last time they were probably played before MY was Charlie FM (save for Magic, who probably played 'I Still Haven't Found' or "With Or Without You").

Yeah, "With Or Without You" and "One" are pretty much staples even on traditional AC. But, even though it's '80s, it's a pleasure to hear some of their faster, guitar-driven songs like "In the Name of Love" and "New Year's Day". Neither of which I don't think I heard at all until after the MY flip (aside from Charlie and probably Chuck). The Planet doesn't even give their somewhat harder songs the time of day --- at all. Guess it's not as redneck as Ozzy and the other "older" rock that they do play.

Also wanted to mention another song that nearly gave me a heart attack yesterday -- Stevie Nick's "At the Age of Seventeen". While I can easily say they sound miles better than they did earlier in the filp, it still doesn't make sense that they have to keep an occassional track like this.

Are you sure you don't mean "Edge of Seventeen"?

Here's a theory: "Bootylicious" would fit hot AC.

Yes. Sad. You can tell how much of a Stevie Nicks fan I am when I can't even get one of her biggest hits right.

And LOL at the "Bootylicious" reference. Forgot about that interesting use of sampling.
