Delilah Stalker Gets 3+ Years

You would be surprised by some of the obsessions that some people have, and nothing they do gets what they want.

I've said it before, and it is probably useful here...radio broadcasts to everybody. Including the one half of 1% who are unstable. I have had my experiences with such, and it probably is a built-in risk of our industry. Just something to keep in mind, even moreso today.

I think Bob Rivers ought to write a parody of "Hey There Delilah" about this guy.......

There is also that less than one-quarter of one percent who are unstable broadcasters. My bet is that if their little station tried to get rid of them they'd be sued under the Americans with Disabilities Act or some other disease class.

...although already used the tune once for the Chlamydia (sp?) parody! Some would say that already covered both bases!

I was thinking more than 1/4 in the radio biz are crazy or should be put in white jackets. At least half of us on this board!!

Would anyone in Bob's audience get it, Bong? It all in the setup, I suppose.

Doesn't EVERYONE know who Delilah is?

Anyone remember when Robin Erickson got through to Delilah and had some crazy story about Grunter falling off the ladder putting up Christmas lights? She wanted her of course to dedicate a song to him and their "special needs" child Roy. It was classic!

Delilah is a beautiful woman and has a beautiful voice. Even if her show was carried on only one station, she would have stalkers.

Most DJ's do have a few listeners that are a little weird at the very least. I have had two scary incidents where listeners were threatening to kill me and a few others DJ's at KLSY, back in the 80's. These two guys, years apart and totally unrelated, had the idea that a few of us at KLSY were part of some communist plot to overthrow the United States. Then there are the crazed love letters from fans that followed me from KLSY to KJR. The naked pictures of listeners (most of whom had 'great bodies for radio'- hehe), snail mailed back in the day. Pretty sure email makes that worse- or better, depending on where you stand. Even running my very low power pirate station gets me email from some strange people (no naked pictures…yet, THANKFULLY!). Then again, when I was a club DJ, I'd have to deal with a few wackos from time to time. Thankfully the good mail FAR outweighs the weird. This is not just a DJ phenomenon... restaurant servers, bartenders, baristas, anybody who deals with the public can become a 'fixture' in a person's life and have to deal with stalking or unwanted advances etc. Sad, but a fact of life. A former PD of mine once said; "As a DJ, you know you are good when you start getting mail from the freaks. The more freaks, the bigger your listening base is". hmm, I am imagining an Arbitron book that breaks out the numbers according to psychological disorder. That would be interesting, now wouldn't it!

This is a good reminder that we all need to stay safe. Know what is around you when you arrive at, and leave your work. Keep aware of your surroundings at all times. Not just good advice for radio and TV personalities, but for everyone. My best advice for radio DJ’s: DON’T TROLL ‘THE HITLINES’! hardyharhar

You mention disc jockey trolls - the day is coming when one in an itty bitty market is going to be challenged to prove that the heavy hitters in the big leagues are telling her that the way to succeed is to try sound like them while being treacherously full of lovingkindness. She never should have been allowed on a microphone, but now that she is she has to try to squirm out of criminal behaviour, so she pretends that the real professionals in the industry are helping her out. Absolutely, she is the stalker, not the stalked. She'll be gone by the time we get around to presenting the transcripts of her time on air, whether voicetracked while out stalking, or that rare live and local on the air thing.

I have read your post over and over, but still not sure of your point. If you think this fictional female dj was encouraged to be, let's say, "suggestive", then I get that. Although I don't really agree with it, and don't think it happens that often. If you think this fictional female dj did this on purpose, I disagree. Why would any female dj put herself out there like that?

Please expand on what point you were trying to make. I'm interested.

No you really didn't. Please explain why you think Delilah brought this on herself? Your earlier post doesn't make much sense. I would appreciate clarity on this, as it is an important subject. Do you really believe females bring on unwanted sexual assaults? Please expand.

Good Lord! I don't think Delilah brought it on herself at all!!!! She has a great deal of class and dignity, and there is certainly demand for her. I have seen some pretty rough things said about her; however, I was not even referring to Delilah when I responded to a prior post. I was referring to more of a backwoods type female on the air in a different market.

No wonder it made no sense to you. Frankly, I think Delilah's stalker deserved more than three years.

I misunderstood your post. Thank you for the clairification.

It is a hell of a way to live, especially in one's 50s when middle age is on the horizon. Even more disturbing is that the guy was the same age, which he may have used to lend maturity to himself. She probably tried any number of ways to make it stop, but it just came at her a different way until she had to do what she had to do. The guy didn't get enough time.

Do you have an aircheck of this? I have GOT to hear this!
