Your good friend, who?????? Well, forget that for now....
No No No, you are thoroughly mistaken. Callahan's statement was CLEARLY that all Japanese people look alike. Just because David Ortiz would be easier to identify while in the misdt of a Japanese gathering, does not make Callahan's statement is correct, politically or otherwise? I still maintain that it was racist, childish, and dismissive. You are persistent to use the likes of David Ortiz to demonstrate your point regarding a person of a different race sticking out in a crowd. Would you hold to the same model if Teddy Bruschi was in the midst of an all black crowd? Would you say he would sticks out because all blacks look alike? The more accurate, not politcally correct, but more accurate statement would be...Bruschi doesn't have any of the physical characteristics that would make one think he is African American.....That is notably different than 'black people (or any group, race, religion, etc) just look alike.' As I said in the previous post. Japanese may all look alike to you and Gerry Callahan, and maybe even your buddy Craig, but Asians don't look alike to other Asians.
If Craig says he's ok being told that all Japanese, and let's throw Chinese and Korean in the mix, look alike, does he speak for all those of the heritage(s)? That's more than a billion people. Is he speaking for the whole billion? Wow, that would by mighty impressive. I'm confident that the overwhelming majority of Asians would sharply disagree.
My opinion of the Dennis & Callahan Show is also not germain to this specific argument, yet you keep trying to make it so. This is a blog. Blogs are for, well, let's see, ummm, oh yeah, opinions. It gives no-names, like you and me the opportunity to speak publically on things that we otherwise would not have the opportunity to do. Oh wait, unless we had a radio show, a newpaper column, or any other media forum. And I don't, so blogging is my outlet for expressing opinions, particularly about the media, you know, on a website devoted to blogging, um well, about the media, particulaly the radio end of it...um, you know, which goes by the URL RADIO-INFO.COM. It all seems logical to me.
The fact that D&C are successful does not provide a perch for the on-air talent to make any point they wish, that is beyond scrutiny or examination, at the least. They are not operating with a blank check. We all have boundries in our respective positions. They crossed one of theirs that morning. My original intention was to point out that they got away with one. I would not delude myself into thinking my blogged opinion has the juice to get them penalized. I'm not looking for any victories. I made an observation on the appropriate website to do so. You are correct, I don't like either personality on that show, but I do enjoy the sports format. I am not a devout listener, in fact, I listen more to the Lew and Mike Show on 1510 (WWZN). They are caustic at times, as well, but they seem more open minded and alot funnier. But that's another blog entry for another day.
As for getting used to the success of D&C, we already are, oh wait, except maybe you, neanderpaul, you have yet to listen.
