Does anyone have any inside info on the Dennis Miller show? What hours it will air? What the content will be like? What is his target audience? Just curious to see who would pick up his show and who his competition will be.

who his competition will be.

I don't have any inside information. However, I am confident that I can say without fear of contradiction that his competition will be whatever talk shows are on the air on other stations while his show airs. I also have a high level of confidence that if he is on the air from (hypothetically) 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, talk shows that air from noon to 3:00 PM will not be his competition.

His show is on 9-12AM EST. Beck, Ingraham and Boortz are his main competition.

Yes, her track record of pounding the others makes that very clear.

He pitches his show. "I'm part libertarian, part objectivist, part conservative. I'm not a liberal but I don't
hate liberals like some hosts do, as most of my best friends are liberals. I'm no longer liberal because I wanted to stop my sentences one word short of the word 'but'..."

starts March 26

Just what the world needs...yet another 9-noon ET syndicated talk show.

Dennis Miller had a forum for his type of profanity-laden humor and that was HBO.....we know he can't carry a show from CNBC, who keeps retreading these guys?
he is already humor challenged from his "move" to the RW side of the coin.....but politics aside can he connect with the audience WW1 tries to target with O'Reilly and Monica "ZZZZ" Crowley?
A lot of the listeners are going to think he is one of those words the RW loves, an elitist....so I have to seriously question why Miller.

Most important point: He cannot be counter-programming to Stephanie Miller because he lacks the main ingredient, being very funny.

Come on guys can we try to be realistic. Stephanie Miller, according to her shows Wikipedia page (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stephanie_Miller_Show) has about 50 affiliates and WW1 is going all out to get clearances for Dennis Miller. So he will probably open with more than 50 affiliates. The number of conservative talkers available for clearances for D. Miller far trumps the number of liberal talkers for S. Miller. Politically D. Miller is not inline with his target audience and it may rub his stations' listeners the wrong way, so how this all will work is up in the air. Please ignore this actual discussion of radio and get back to your inane left vs. right babble.

Dennis Miller would be a strong alternative to Glenn Beck for those of us who can't stand Beck's apocalyptic leanings...if he actually puts some thought and effort into the show.

Also, he was a conservative during his SNL/HBO heyday, so saying that he stopped being funny because he shifted to the right is inaccurate. I think creative burnout and doing too much at once with MNF, the end of his HBO show, and all the commercials caused that.

Okay let me see if I understand your logic. Take a guy who has failed as TV talk show host, put him on the radio at 7am-10am pst (that's 4am-7am est), where he's competing in a day part where there aren't three or more right wing talkers to go up against. However, there are some problems. Besides that fact that most of the radio listeners in the country are still sleeping, Miller is going up against local talkers like Bill Handel and Doug McIntrye in L.A. and pairs of strong local conservative talkers in San Francisco, San Diego, Portland, and Seatlle. This doesn't leave much room for Miller unless he does a deal with Salem. I'll put my money on the other Miller.

Here's what that estute right-winger Brian Maloney had to say about Miller's proposed show.

"Did Westwood One ever stop to consider who might carry a show like this? Your Radio Equalizer believes they are going to find the door shut from his first day and onward from there.
Not only are most stations already jammed to the hilt with syndicated talk shows, leaving little room for new product, but Miller's track record just isn't there to convince programmers that they should take a chance and pick him up."

Here let me quote the entire section your trying to get at baroosk

They are going all out. He
will open with 50 affiliates. (Some may be pay for play like O'Reilly, some WILL be small market.)

I'll put my money on the other Miller.
Let's look at the 9-12 shows with more affiliates than S. Miller.

Boortz
Beck
Ingraham
Gallagher

I won't comment on your first points, since you didn't respond to my points. You just re-stated yours.

However, what are you trying to prove by citing four talkers who have more coverage than Stephanie Miller. What does this have to with Dennis Miller who's talk show is going to be offered at 4am-7am est. By the way you do realize that 94% of talk radio time is occupied by right wingers.

Why does Westwood One have such a poor record of picking talk hosts?

Joe Scarborough, Jay Severin, Tom Martino,Ron Insana...

How could you end the Iraq War in six months?

Sign it to a syndication deal with Westwood...

Few things, those talkers compete with S. Miller and beat her. Millers time is not 4-7 AM,
Air Time: 10a-1p ET, re-feeds 1p-4p ET, 4p-7p ET
As for your comment about 94% of talk radio being right-wing, you are 100% correct. Which gives them (WW1) a much better chance of getting clearances, therefore more potential affiliates.

I'm a huge Dennis Miller fan, hope the show is on in Phoenix, or is available via Itunes.

I have become a big fan of the Penn Gillette show which isn't on here, but, the podcasts are fantastic and free.

Any more stuff like this and I'll forget my radio all together (and annoying advertisements)
