Depetro talent being wasted at WPRO.

John Depetro was the toughest , in your 'evil' face, talk host around, back in the 'glory days' of WHJJ. I wish he never took the WRKO gig! Now at Wpro he got Tara and goofy crap endlessly. Even his News Man sounds like comedy act. It's sad.

I believe it WHJJ decided to get back to talk , not national talk, with John back there (old John) they could not only get back lost listeners , but give the peeps of RI a Choice.. Nice people at Wpro, but they all are pretty much muzzeled . 2 reasons, the G.M. ( a very liberal P.C. person) and 'Buddy'. It's hard to 'take stands' on things .. Wpro would be ripe for the pickens.. Too bad for listeners and the market.. Competition is always a good thing. At least, thats what I think.

John was a renagade when he was on HJJ. That was when he was at his best. He even had the nice TV simulcast on Cox cable to compliment the radio show. He was clearly the star at the station. Unfortunately one wrong move in this businesss can screw everything up. But you can't reallly blame John. Radio is a business where you try to move up the ranks. He took a job in a much larger market which could have potentiallly brought a lot more success than he even had at HJJ. Unfortunately Boston listeners wern't impressed. Johhn had no way of knowing that was going to be the end result anymore than Conan could have predicted that his "Tonight Show" gig would fail in 7 months. In this businesss you get ahead by taking chances. Unfortunately they don't always work out. I can tell you right now that I would have made the exact same decision that John did. I don't know if it would have worked out any better for me. But I give kudos to John for giving it a shot. I only wish that John could get his midday slot back and have the stations blesssing to do the exact same show that made him HOT on HJJ. Give him back his Cox TV sumulcast too. That was always fun to watch and personally I do miss it. Stream it on the web this time as well which I think WPRO is already doing anyway. I just connected my living room Laptop to my 37 inch HDTV. My living room is now a new media center. Full screen streaming is just like watching TV for me now. It's WILD!
 
Could not agree more; WHJJ John was great. The WPRO morning format does not allow him to be the pitbull, he's too busy setting up the Burger King regional traffic update and Elliot's weather every 5 minutes.
 
I think he's lucky he has a job frankly and doing what he's doing keeps him in a safe place. Let him turn pitbull and it wouldn't be long before he says or does something that lands him on the beach. You can get away with more when you're nationally known, but not DePetro.

yeah.. but you see.. THAT is what makes great radio. A host who has occasional wacky thoughts. This way when you don't agree with the host, at least you can goof on him. Either way it's fun. :)
 
Real, that was great radio ! Wasn't that girl in a black club and wond up being attacked by blacks? Yea, at 5 am??? Guess what, in the REAL 'REAL' world, she shouldn't have been there! Talk Radio is one place where your Political Correctness is weak. I love to hear the s--t fly ! Come on man !!

I agree. When you get into the real seedy side of life, talk radio is at it's best. I honestly couldn't give a crap about politics. But if you start talking about Blacks attacking and raping people in clubs, at least THAT is some interesting radio. That truely is REAL RADIO. Honestly.... how many more times a day can people do entire shows about Obama and about Taxes? Bla bla bla.. It''s all so incredibly boring. These no talent one dimensional hosts can't seem to talk about anything else. It's the same crap every single freaking day (FROM ALL OF THEM!). When I turn on my radio and I hear about a gang rape or a police shootout on the bad side of town, I welcome the refreshing topic. At least it keeps things interesting. Let's talk about that for a change. Effing Politics every single day though.... UGH.... SO SICKENING!!!
 
I'd have to say I agree! You've swayed me. While I may not agree with Depetro, questioning scenarios like that is what makes radio compelling. Perhaps I was just turned off by name calling... you can have compelling, controversial, and interesting radio without name calling.

But I will concede, you've swayed me on Depetro.
 
He's lucky to even be in the business after the ratings scandal! Notice how he never mentions his wife on the air. Here's a woman who loved him soooooo much she filled out all those diaries and never told him. He talks about his kids, never his wife. She claimed to be the culprit and John can't even say "thank you".

How many people do you think actually believe that John had no clue about his wife filling in those diaries? Do you actually think there is anyone on the planet who is that gullible? I'm sure the real story is much closer to what I am going to describe below....

John: I'm screwed. They found out that those diaries came from us.

John's wife. Oh MyGod... what can they do to you?

John: They can fire me and then fine me a bunch of money. That's what they can do to me. This could turn into a big scandal where I won't even be able to get another radio job. That A**hole Skynet on the internet radio board is already predicting I'll be fired over this. It's the first time that I've ever felt he may be right.

John's wife: So what are we going to do?

John: I'm going to have to think up something quick before I lose my job.

The next morning

John: OK I need for you to do the biggest favor for me that you've ever done. It's the only way to save my ass. We are going to have to say that you filled out those diaries without my knowledge. They can't fire you, so you have nothing to lose. Maybe a miracle will happen and I'll somehow get to keep my job once this mess is over. I really see no other option.

John's wife. Allright John. I can do that for you. I don't want you to lose your job over this. I'll just take the blame and act like I didn't know any better.

Agree with you Skynet. I kinda think Yak is Ron StPierre.

Rating scandal, convicted felons, smokin the weed ,who cares ! Love to see Depetro turned loose. Imagine him going up against Buddy !! :eek: Big BIG Bucks for WHJJ if they have the vision and the balls...

I wish I owned a radio station. I would hire Depetro tomorrow and tell him to just go nuts. No holding back on anything or anybody. Just let loose and let's make some great radio.
 
I remember when he called the woman who was running as a Libertarian a oh, boy, she prefers female companionship. He called her a fat you knowwhat when he was on WRKO

Another situation and boy it was my thinking is and will always be, but, he said it on air, the woman who in Swansea who's boyfriend murdered her two year old son, of course par for the course he was not the dad, he called her a derogatory word, which is what I agree with but, he said it on air.

He could be dangerous if allowed to say what is really on his mind.
 
The host of the "WPRO Morning News" should not be a hate-filled, run-of-the-mill conservative hack such as DePetro. While real objectivity is an impossibility, a morning news program should strive for it. While DePetro is certainly toned down now, can anyone imagine Salty Brine putting an ideological spin on anything? Can anyone imagine him cheering on Tea Party convention attendees?
 
Hey thanks Real ! Scott , Wpro is just so 'wimpy' in the morning. Salty is gone and if Wpro wants to have a wimpy show , so be it. I'd like to say Depetro is damn good and a hard hitting radio personality. All I can say is, I agree and think John would bring Whjj back to life.. I also agree that would mean Big Money for Whjj.... I know some of you hate Depetro, but this is business not about agendas..
 
Regardless of what kind of no-holds-barred radio you dreamers want in morning drive, it isn't going to happen. HJJ isn't going to hire him and he's lucky he has the job he has. Give him free reign and he'd get himself fired. His career will benefit in the long run if he keeps doing what he's doing now. End of story.
 
Have got to agree with Tee Man...the in-your-face screamfests that pass for talk radio are a guaranteed tuneout for me Thankfully here in the Philly area we have all-news KYW 1060, and when I'm back there, I can listen to WBZ's all news programming during the day.
 
Of the 2 posters going against Depetro, I know one of you and I understand why you hate him. BUT, honestly, Depetro in the afternoon against Cianci? OMG that would be great for both stations! I'd love to see it. It would be 100 percent lively! I must say talk radio right now is 100 percent BORING. Hey if Depetro says f a g again ( when did that become a bad word!? ) and gets in trouble, MORE to listen to !! Come on people ! I heard Wpro total numbers are down 35 % and Whjj s suck. Can any of you say you look forward to listening to Buddy or any others? I'd like to see Talk radio exciting again, thats all I mean to say. Stop being so negative !

Other than being sold; the chances of HJJ picking up Depetro are about the same as Paul or Al sticking around to update their web page after their Friday shift!
