DePetro to PRO? (via Prov Board)

And I don't know where "conservative roots" comes from. The Barbara Anderson piece we've referenced
may refer to some social conservative stands but she points out that this is a guy who shot down the voter-passed-
tax-reduction, etc. (he also helped to shoot down the megaplex aka corporate welfare for Big
Krafty, IIRC, though...)
 
haha - from 'allegedly making' to 'allegedly fired' to 'allegedly derogatory' that's pretty funny.

To clarify, it's the news source who said it's a derogatory remark. But Infidel, my friend, I have never heard the term 'fat lesbian' used as a compliment by a conservative foamin' at the mouth talk show host. I'll keep an ear out for Howie Carr: "you fat lesbo you" to his favoriate callers.

But heck, things change. I'm probably just out of touch. Is that a term you use to compliment people? I'll try to get with the program. (and don't worry, I'll try to always make sure you get full attibution - "Infidel sez this is a compliment, or at the least is not derogatory, so be happy."). :D

Sad to see one or two used-to-be radio folks further down the page loosing "the green-eyed monster" from the cage.

This is an e mail posted by a "Chuck Andelman" on the save_boston_progressive_talk group. Since it is public it is worth re-publishing here;

Just read in the Herald that talk show host John Depetro landed another
radio gig in Providence after being fired by WRKO after mouthing some
slurs on air at Green Party candidate Grace Ross. I caught his show
on RKO at the dentists office, and his show was so ponderous, dull and
humorless I couldn't for the life of me figure out who would listen to
such sludge. I was happy that the dentist's drilling distracted me
somewhat. Though DePetro styled himself as the "Independent Man" he
was obviously right wing. How do such people command the airways when
really talented people like Steph, Ed, and Randy are not heard in many
markets, including ours!
 
"Independent" can mean someone who may or may not follow a strict party line of thought though
yes, DePetro does lean right on just about every issue.

From a site about the R.I. State House:
"On the top of the dome stands the statue of the Independent Man."

From another:
"The statue of the Independent Man atop the State House says it all: we think for ourselves."

no, Raccoon, though Al Franken is a funny comic on stage and a bore on radio, at least he uses facts and would never say "fat lesbian" in regards to a candidate for office, would he?

Franken is a smart man, DePetro is not. You "conservatives" would love to think that Rove, Libby, DePetro,
Savage, etc. have class and brains. Rove is a pit bull that bit his way into things - now it has bitten the
Administration.

John DePetro - you're no Al Franken. Franken might have a dry delivery that isn't fit for radio, but at least he gives solid information. The "independent" man is anything but. He's a whiny no-talent that can't even get
legitimate signatures on a petition.
 
John DePetro should change his moniker to "The Opinionated Man".
 
Admittedly I only listened to Franken a couple of times, including a couple days after the '04 election when
he had someone on talking about the election being stolen. He sounded like someone who's been woken up
in the middle of the night, though he prob. sounds that way a lot. Ironic that DePetro--who also doesn't
exactly have a radio-ready voice--starts his new show in the Wally Brine Studio the same day
Franken leaves.

DePetro vs. Fineburg: would prefer Todd, based on voice and attitude/humor, etc., but DePetro may be just fine
for Rhode Island talk. He's an Ocean Stater, born in Cranston and now living in E. Greenwich.
 
depetro's great for RI, a state which wouldn't have noticed the F Matt or F Lesbian comments. Agree Todd more sophisticated and appropriate for Boston.

I liked listening to Franken sometimes. He was tedious, but the information was good. This is the key to the Air Am failure I guess. They never learned how to be good talk hosts.

depetro is a sh*tdisturber of sorts. maybe he was a bit ri-centric, but at least he knew how to grab attention for himself and wrko when dealing with major issues or topics on his show. it's something you need to do when you have competition in the market. it's something that the passive fatso and whineburg can only dream of doing one day. i am not defending depetro's style, just pointing out the difference in styles.
i think that is why they hired finneran. he's a well known figure who comes in with a rap sheet, a history of saying controversial things that got under people's skin and will be throwing stuff out there that people will be reacting to.

If they told him Celtic talk, he would do Celtic talk. He did the Middle East. Then it was cooking with Boston tonight. Then it was pretend Finneran is a good idea. You guys are clueless. People complain depetro is a loose cannon and starts trouble. RIGHT. That is what I like about the show. No wonder so many of you are out of the business...
 
Detestable is the word for DePetro, but yo yo radio is right. The Fourth Grader dePetro is better than the
First Grader, Finebore. Why are we even having this discussion? Both are hardly "quality broadcasters",
the bigger story is why Julie and Jason force things like this over the public airwaves.

Finneran who coined the phrase "fat ass millionaire" to describe Bob Kraft (when Kraft was looking for the state to finance his new stadium)? Boring? He'll bore those with 30 second attention spans, which may be a lot of the current audience. He might bore himself if he has to do the "Herald headline of the day" morning show that has driven that time spot in recent years. But he is by no means a boring person. I hope they let him do his own show, rather than having him do their show, that's all.

Hate him or love him....JD landed a new gig.

I know that galls some folks who have been trying, without success, for something new in broadcast for years....but it's reality....just something to get used to.

We should all wish him well...there aren't that many jobs left.
