DFW NonStop Coming to KXAS-DT 5.2

Just noticed something interesting on 5.2 this evening.

It's still the weather. But if you look at the EPG you'll see what I presume are the listings for DFW NonStop.

BTW, KXAS/5's transmitter power appears to be almost back to normal for the first time since they sustained damage during the rolling blackouts a few weeks back.

After no sign of this channel for months on 5.2, I see the crawl is back announcing that it's coming soon.

Considering they had a crawl like that for a few weeks at the beginning of the year without the channel ever showing up, I think I'll believe it when I see it.

Maybe now that Accuweather is on 8.2, 5.2 figured it's OK to go ahead with the change.

Back to KXAS: I'm reserving judgment until I see it, but you're probably right that NonStop will be a NonStarter....

And now from Dr. L over at AVS Forum, we have news that NBC is indeed giving up on DFW NonStop:

Looking at the program lineup at Wikipedia, I'm seeing a lot of the programs RTV used to air. Tons of sci-fi shows (ranging from good to so bad, they're good) and superhero shows. (A few - Star Trek & Batman, for instance, also air on Me-TV, so there's a bit of duplication, but I don't mind.) But no Knight Rider yet, and of course on 5.2 it'll all be SD :( We'll have to keep waiting for someone to work out a deal to air those remastered Blu-Ray Trek episodes

I have not seen an official clarification from NBC that Cozi will replace Nonstop. Remember, they used to run Universal Sports on 5.3

It's possible Cozi-TV will become 5.3 rather than replacing NonStop. Dr. L didn't provide the source for his claim.

I'm looking forward to it either way; my only concern is that 3 subchannels plus KXAS's 1.83 Mb/s encrypted M/H bandwidth waster might degrade the PQ too much (a la This TV on 33.3). But if KAZD/55 can run an HD + 5 SD channels with minimal PQ degradation, surely KXAS can do it too :-\

So, it'll be like 47.1: mostly classics but with some of the lineup replaced by local programming.

I hope they're careful about which classic shows they replace. 47.1 made a questionable choice (IMO) preempting Emergency! mere weeks after Me-TV added it to their lineup (after promoting it heavily). Of course KTXD also has 47.4, but KXAS isn't likely to follow suit (they'd have to add 5.3 back, and most of the time .2 and .3 would be the same, which would look strange), so it's going to bite more if they replace good shows.

Whoa  Just rechecked Wikipedia and a lot of the shows listed, including the superhero shows & most of the sci-fi shows, are gone now, including all the Star Trek spinoffs :(

They haven't wasted any time making some changes. I noticed today that 5.2 was airing "Highway to Heaven" at noon. I think that replaced repeats of some talk show.

Cozi TV Has Come to KXAS-DT 5.2

Looks like NBCU got an early start. Cozi TV is on 5.2 now! Lots of Ozzie & Harriet, The Lone Ranger, and Roy Rogers.

That's all over the US on the NBC O&O's. There was a heads-up post, IIRC somewhere here on RD, maybe as early as Monday, letting us know.

They added "I Spy" for next month.

Looking at Zap2it it seems most Cozi shows from now through Christmas are Christmas-oriented. After that the schedule looks more typical, although the Christmas shows return for an encore on Jan. 1 ???
