I am sure that both of the listeners who are "gay" and also own HD radios will tune in DFW pride.
Maybe a third or fourth will actually buy an HD radio in the next few months.

Based on current and near term HD radio penetration, no subchannel is going to generate ratings. How many HD radios are in use in DFW right now? Maybe a few thousand? How many will be in used in the next six months? Not enough to generate a 0.1 share of the audience for even the broadest-appealing format.

Strange as it feels for me to say this about anything involving Clear Channel, Pride Radio (and ever other attempt at HD radio subchannels) is really a long-term effort that will take years to pay off.

You guys realize this format is not strictly an H-D deal...it's streamed on the KHKS website.

And the point is that half the posters on here are saying why do gays need their own radio station or 'this'll never work'.

And everyone of those people are thinking 'inside the box'.

For all you peeps that can't do anything but read liner cards or set up the promo table where you're told to, I realize that it's hard to think creatively. But most, if not ALL, of these HD stations are designed to be niche formats. They're not going to have the same 'metrics' of success that a 'real' station will have...

I think it is a cheap trick to get attention. They learned it from the pros. You'll notice that whenever our elected officials want to deflect attention from what is really going on, they use "hot button" issues like gay marriage or gays in the military to divert public attention. What's sad is, it works.

Why wouldn't a radio station do the same thing? If they could get as much attention at the corner of Cedar Springs and Throckmorton, as they have on this forum, they'd actually sell some radios.

As someone pointed out earlier....this is a market that's not being served in DFW. It's radio 101. The gays & lesbian community usually DOES have the extra $$$$ to spend on things like HD radios. I'd imagine many more though will simply stream the music. For the most part, gays have their own bars, restaurants, and parts of town. Why not a radio station. I don't think it's about deflecting anything or being gimmicky....it's about getting a chunk of all that disposable income.

Full disclosure? I don't think it will be a success because this demo has proven to be widely unloyal to "new ideas". It's hot for a few months, maybe even a year or so, but then it dies because of apathy.

However, if you are interested to see a winning option for this community embracing a new idea... anyone ever hear of the "Cathedral of Hope"? It's now the largest "gay" church in the WORLD, right here in Dallas.
