Diamond Sports loses another team.

Diamond Sports has now filed an agreement with the Bankruptcy Court that will keep 11 NBA Teams on Bally Sports through the 2024-25 Season, and if they confirm a Chapter 11 Plan, it will continue beyond the 2024-25 Season. Diamond Sports has also filed to Reject the Broadcast Agreements with the New Orleans Pelicans and Dallas Mavericks NBA Teams.

There goes Wild then.
The Wild will be on Ballys this upcoming season. All 9 NHL teams remaining with contracts will stay on Ballys per the new agreement. The Kings aren't listed in the filing above since the are on a joint venture (Bally Sports West is own by DSG and some of the LA Angeles ownership); same for the Blues. The only teams not renewing are the Panthers and Stars, who already exited and announced their broadcast plans for the upcoming seasons (Stars via a DTC app; Panthers via Scripps' WSFL, WHDT, and a Fort Myers outlet to be named plus a DTC app).

13 NBA teams also renew. The ones not renewed are the Pelicans, which already announced a local OTA deal with Gray via WVUE and its co-owned stations in LA, MS. The other one is the Mavericks, which hasn't yet released their media plans for the season starting soon. With the Stars and Mavs gone, presumably Bally Sports Southwest will cease after the Rangers baseball season ends and that deal expires.

This is still somewhat murky, as the San Antonio Spurs contract remains with BSSW. The various Texas UIL High School Football Championships have also been on BSSW; what happens with those?

BSSW might go away, but it’s possible Texas might get the Spurs and HS football rolled into sub feeds of another Bally regional network. There is also the Oklahoma City Thunder situation as well as the odd arrangements in Arkansas.

What about Local NBA Rights. Apparently the Dallas Mavericks got their head lopped off.
According to reports, the Mavs and DSG both agree to separate, but it is pending the judge has to approve it. The Stars and DSG both mutually filed to separate earlier, so the same process will happen here. Presumably, once the judge OKs it, the Mavs will announce their plans for local games -- over the air deal, DTC app, or a combo of the two would seem the most likely options.

I imagine the BSSW variant that is distributed in the Spurs territory continues; ditto for the BSSW Oklahoma variant. I imagine the main BSSW on D/FW cable systems would go away, just as the Bally Sports San Diego and Bally Sports Arizona channels did when those channels lost their pro teams.

Would DSG have to give the UIL some cash since they have the rights to all the Texas High School football state championships?

looks like the Mavs are moving to Victory+ & WFAA.
I've seen people speculate about that, but I haven't seen anything official and there is no release or mention of it on WFAA's website this evening about a deal. I think the judge would have to approve the filing from each party (DSG and the Mavs) before the Mavs could sign a deal elsewhere and announce it.

I'm just not sure how a deal with WFAA works without causing a problem with ABC over network programming preemptions.

Parent Tegna signed a OTA deal with the NHL's Seattle Kraken this summer to move their games over the air. Tegna owns NBC affiliate KING-TV 5 and independent KONG 16 there. KING-TV will air a few games; the bulk will be on KONG. The big TV networks do not want their affiliates regularly pre-empting their prime time shows, which is why KONG will get the bulk of them.

In New Orleans, the contract with Fox affiliate WVUE 8 is to put the bulk of the games on WVUE 8.2, its Bounce TV subchannel, which does have cable carriage. Again, to not anger Fox by preempting programming regularly. Bounce has some viewership...to the point Scripps is weighing options from parties interested in buying it.

For WFAA, where do the games go? None of the WFAA 8.x subchannels have wide cable carriage or viewership. Tegna does own another station in the market, but unlike KONG, it is Estrella TV KMPX. I'm not clear how much it programs it -- Tegna bought it in order to eventually swap the licenses to get WFAA off the VHF band onto the better (for digital signal propagation) UHF band. Once KMPX is moved to digital 8 spectrum, Estrella has the right to purchase KMPX back.

DSG is in chapter 11 since it can't pay its obligations. Anyone owned money would have to file a claim with the court and stand in line with the all the other creditors and folks owed money. Or...if BSSW is wound down in North Texas, presumably they could file to have the contract just cancelled and they go look for a new home.

Looks like Bally Sports SoCal is losing the Anaheim Ducks which are going to Victory+ and FOX's KCOP. Interestingly, Anaheim Ducks was on the list of NHL Teams Diamond Sports said they were keeping in the New NHL agreement last week. I guess that is no longer the case...

I hope the Stars also figure out an OTA option beyond Victory+.

With the Ducks, that's 6 NHL teams using over the air and an app -- Kraken, Golden Knights, Utah HC, Panthers, Ducks, and theoretically the Blackhawks. Though in Chicago's case, no broadcast outlets have been named in the two months since they (and its fellow pro sports team partners) said they would be launching its own RSN and games would be available on broadcast. Will all these games that might wind up only on Victory+ still be available via ESPN+? Last season, all regular season games except the ones on national TV were available, albeit with blackout rules.

The same should apply. The Ducks release notes the games are available out of market on ESPN+. If in market, there wouldn't be a need to subscribe to ESPN+ to get them since they are free on KCOP-TV or the Victory+ app.

KDFI OR KTXA could be a return option for the Dallas Stars for OTA. Maybe even KTAQ, KAZD or KPXD

Certainly there are options... for them and/or the Mavs.

Though I wonder if KTXA is not. Paramount is looking to unload it and all the other independent stations it owns, with the exception of KCAL-TV Los Angeles. They have yet to be involved in picking up any local rights to a NHL or NBA team...and if they desire to unload the independents, they don't have to worry about programming them. Paramount Explores Sale of 12 Local TV Stations

With Fox doing a deal with the Ducks, it seems like KDFI or Scripps' KPXD would be the most logical options given Scripps' desire for local sports rights and already having deals with 3 NHL clubs.

If the Wild follows the Ducks (which i think they wouldn't do), it might end up on Victory+ and KPXM or KSTC.
