Dick Clark and his Rockin Eve

We talk about it every year and since no one has started the topic yet, I will. And, at about 12:20am, we've probably seen the last of Dick Clark for the rest of his show as he tends to disappear right after the ball drop since the stroke (although the tv is in the other room so I could be wrong).

Dick looked pretty good, sounded ok, and I noticed he was using both hands to gesture where, in the years since the stroke, one of his hands (the right one?) stayed on the table. Limited participation from Dick until the final 15 seconds and then he counted down. A couple of years ago, a story came out that Dick's 'scenes" were pre-taped now. Not sure if they still are but they looked live. And his kisses with Mrs. Clark looked very slurpy. :p

Kellie Pickler (a first timer as the streetside roving reporter) is a lot better to look at than Steve Doocey or Slater from years past. She did a pretty good job although I could have done with less yelling from her. She yelled EVERYTHING. But awfully cute.

Not a fan of Taylor Swift but she performed live in freezing Times Square (as did Lionel Richie) and she looked good doing it.

And Seacrest....he was there too.

Happy New Year everyone.

I disagree -- I think they are 100% live (east coast only), as I noticed one of the countdown clocks in the background in Times Square counting down.

New years eve shows Review:

DICK CLARKS NEW YEARS ROCKIN EVE 09 WITH RYAN SEACREST ON ABC
Not bad , once again Dick was live, but I did notice something wasnt right in the teeth department, nonetheless it was good!
Tayor Swift looked DANNNNGGGG good!
Lionel Richie was cool
the jonas Brothers were tollerable
and Kelly Pickler early on her mic wasnt close enough to hear her, but she WAS an improvement to Doocey!
Ryan ...ehhh!

Not bad,mildly tollerable

I hated Kellie Pickler, I don't wanna hear a southern girl talking to people, other then her the show was pretty good except talor swift. How can ya think fox was better then cnn? all they showed was country music and the host were awful and corny. The nbc show was cool, better then last year

I'm happy to see Dick Clark at least making the effort to be a part of the show. There are two things I hate about this show: 1-Ryan Seacrest and 2-The way Disney blatantly showcases their "talent" over everybody else, which is downright sickening. At about 12:03 AM or so, off went the TV.

You've got to give Dick Clark a lot of credit. The fact that he survived a near fatal stroke three years ago and lived to tell about it, is truly amazing. Every year, I notice some improvement in his motor skills. His speech still shows the signs of impairment due to the stroke and it probably has reached the best its' going to ever be. But, you never know.... when it comes to a stroke. I did notice his aging even more so this year (this was my first year watching the show on HD). But when you come right down to it, this man is 80 years old. And for a man of 80, he sure looks damn good! I hope we get a few more New Year shows with Dick Clark. As Ryan Seacrest, well..... the guy needs a shave.

Dick is actually 79 and yes...Seacrest needs a lot more than a shave. I could definitely do without him. Ugh! :(

I watch most of Dick Clark's Rock in Eve and taped CNN,Fox,NBC,MTV show which I will skim through today.I was nice to see more of Dick on HIS show.he was on top, and funny. The music line up stinked except for Taylor Swift, Fergie look cute,Ryan's mike was a piece of crap, maybe ABC perchased from the Rat Shack.

FOX's New Years Live stank. In the first hour, it was Daughtry, David Cook, and a whole lot of leadup to a jump by Robbie Knieval. The jump lasted about 5 seconds. Plus, host Mark Thompson had a rather grating voice.

I watched mostly Dick Clarks and Carson Dailys New Year Eve shows. Both were good but I like Carson Dailys better as I don't really care for Seacreast. But you gotta see Dick Clark on New Years. So I flipped back and forth for the music. But I think NBC has a good start with Carson Daily's New Year's Eve as they been using him for a couple years now. Some competion for Seacrest.

NBC seemed a little more hip hop with T.I. and Ludacris and the girl who sings the I Kissed A Girl Song (sorry don't know her name)

ABC had Taylor Swift and some others

Didn't care for CNN cause they had Kathy on it.

ESPN and FOX had stunts for their New Years and MTV had their show with Miley.

Yeah, I debated at first if they were live or not, and they were live. This is quite an effort considering the stroke. Its bittersweet to see him in this condition, but really wouldn't be New Year's Eve without him. He did seem better than last year, and seemed he was ad-libbing more too. He mispoke once when discussing the ball, but ad-libbed and corrected himself. Knowing how hard it is for stroke victims to improve, he must be working hard, and I wish him all the luck in the world!

Always glad to see Dick Clark participate in his show. Kudos for the great effort, and frankly, kudos to ABC for sticking with him (it makes up for the dreadful decision to have Ryan Seacrest as the new lead host...surely there had to be someone less grating out there, but whatever).

Taylor Swift...wow. Amazing that the only hotties it seems come from the country world anymore, to me at least. Fergie...eh, never understood the appeal, but different strokes and all that. Kellie Pickler annoyed the living daylights out of me; the whole 'ditzy' thing is so annoying.

Frankly, I watched a little of all of them, and Im surprised that
alot of you like Carson's broadcast. To me,he seemed so down,
and like he didn't really want to be there.
Kathy griffin is witty, but it seemed like the soul purpose
on CNN was to have kathy embarrass Anderson Cooper. His
nervous laughter, and the faked shock at her statements made it
annoying.

Yeah gotta give Seacrest credit. He is this generations Dick Clark.
He is smooth at everything he does. Kelly Pickler didn't act as stupid
as she has on idol. Also, she looks like she's had her entire face done.

Not sure about her face but she admitted a year or two ago to having a boob job which wasn't too much of a surprise for anyone who watched her guest-stint on AI last year.

Whatever happened to Jay Leno's live New Year's Eve shows? When did they end?

It seemed like they let Dick talk a little more this year, maybe a little more after the ball drop. You've still got to give him tons of credit for going on live TV when you know millions of people are watching you in that condition. Obviously he is very dedicated to the broadcast.

I agree. I don't know why everyone hates Ryan on this show?
