The backup antenna on Shell (the original master antenna downtown) has been shot and leaks gas for a while...If any aux tried to fire up into it, they were lucky if they didnt have to reduce power or watch it burn up!! 95.7's backup on San Felipe was limited to low ERP (Only a 3 bay antenna IIRC)...105.7's back up is there now...10kw solidstate Continental
Stations do have a single bay aux antenna on Sr Rd at 1000ft...but that precludes any major work on the tower if they are hot....when the major rebuild of the lines in the mid 90s happened, most went to the aux bays or those with aux sites were on them (KHMX, etc)...NOW with the IBOC rebuild, they HAD to go somewhere else...and with the American and Richland towers sitting there, there was plenty of antenna space now for high ERP/Height aux...in DFW, few stations had decent auxs until the 39 tower fell in 96...suddenly EVERYONE was building out decent aux stations..Richland's new 2000ft tower there helped even though it was primarily built for TV.
