Did this really happen on the Radio?

I am tired of this being shouted from the highest point....

And we wonder why Radio is constantly losing listeners to Sat. radio , Ipods, MP3 players and Pandora!

What do all those mediums have in common? Uncensored content. Maybe it's just that I pal around with the dregs of society, the sinners that can't be saved, but 99% of the people I know who've given up on local radio — 75% of the people I know, period — have done so because they're sick of the preaching gospel channels, the lame rock stations that edit songs, the boring morning zoos whose idea of 'edgy' is insinuating that cops eat doughnuts (teh howwor!) They want good music, yak-free, on their iPhones and what-not.

The few that stick around are old fogies like my dad who's always used radio for news (NPR) and tunes for whopping 5 minute commute.

I just don't see why there can't be room enough for both the edgy and the family-safe. Plenty of stations on the dial, and no one seem to be running the rap stations out on a rail for the bad habits THEY sing about. Double standards, I say.

I do not agree with the crude risque stunt on Fish's morning show, but who am I to decide what is right or wrong. There are consequences for anything, and nothing in life is free. It is a radio station's right to choose which audience they go after. I do not have to go in the same direction as they do, I have a choice of what I want to hear -and so should others. Let the listeners decide. Forcing what's clean on people will make some just want to get filthier. If they want to hear trash, that's their decision. Just beware that for every action, theres an equal or opposite reaction.

woah, I think i respect the rocket a little bit more for having the balls to put things like that on the air, especially in these times, when this PC crap has gotten so bad that now even SIRIUS is not allowing their "UNCENSORED" shows to do these kinds of things.

Well Hello My Friends

long time no see I was browsing over all these post and I thought I would comment on the topic at hand. First off someone said how do we determine what is obscene and what isn't. Well you have to consider did Fish's stunt have any artistic value or would it be more likely to be viewed as offensive in accordance with the standards of the market in which the station serves?

Someone mentioned calling the FCC believe me you don't want to do that the paperwork alone takes forever. I would say just let it be because when Fish steps over that line and money goes off the books advertisers start going away he will find himself "Budget cutted" remember this is the buckle of the bible belt.But if you really want to know what Alabama considers obscene from a legal point Google the code of Alabama look up Obscenity.


Before anyone thinks I'm attacking the Rocket NO! I'm not they have a great staff and their PD does a great job. In my opinion Freak goes above and beyond with his duties as a programmer. With that being said I will go on record and say I don't care for Fish as a person I was always taught even if the other guy is your direct competitor there is still respect there. When I worked the Huntsville market full-time I met my direct competitor and now co-worker Joski Love out at a club and we talked and had a few beverages and life was good. My point is even though we were competitors there was respect with fish when I met him he blew me off like I didn't know what I was talking about. I found that to be unprofessional.

I understand rock mornings need to be edgy but you have to also consider your market what works in Dallas or L.A. wont necessarily work in Alabama trust me I speak from experience. I would challenge any rock morning show can you be funny and compelling without the blue High school humor? Can you be edgy yet stay within a range of the community standards? If you can then you can say your talented.
