Quite honestly, I don't know why WBNS AM doesn't air their TV morning newscast. They may have to tweak it since there are no pictures, but that wouldn't be hard to do. Someone in Sacramento does that and it seems to do pretty well.

Simple. ESPN Radio usually has "Mike and Mike" as a must-carry for almost all affiliates (only a handful of ESPN affiliates in major markets DON'T carry M&M, most notably WEEI/Boston). That guarantees maximum saturation in addition to their simulcast on ESPN2.

Honestly, WBNS-FM is more likely to develop a local morning show, and keep "M&M" on "ESPN 1460." But the probability of that happening is the same as a snowball lasting longer than five minutes in Ecuador.

Having spent years living in Columbus, I agree that BC's shoes are tough to fill.

However, I wonder how many of those who "don't like/can't stand/hate" Joel Riley are over the age of 50?

That's when, ratings wise, you're pretty much dead to the ad agencies.

My point is: CC could possibly see Joel with having the potential to slowly bring some younger listeners to the fold, especially if...at some time in the future, they put 'TVN on FM.

Oops...did I say that? Uh...keep moving folks...there's nothing here to see...

Nothing to see yet... :)

Have you listened to Joel in the morning? He is an okay (not great) DJ, but he just cannot carry a show like that. He just sounds so bush league. He is not well read, he has nothing interesting to say and really no questions to ask.

The best person I can compare him to is John Fortney when he was anchor on 10TV. He is a good looking guy, nice enough and he is probably a top tier talent in Lincoln, Nebraska (or whereever he is now), but he just didn't have the "it" factor for a place like Channel 10.

Maybe this isn't a major market, but it isn't Bowling Green, KY, either. We deserve someone with a lot more polish in that slot. Like the other post said, we need someone well connected, well read, who doesn't seem like he fell off the corn truck from Mount Vernon ... a heavy (or at least heavier) hitter.

Sorry, I am probably too negative on the guy, but I can't help it. Put him back on 93.3 where he belongs.

Xtra we get it you don't like Joel, but the show isn't that bad, in fact i like him way better that Jim Scott on WLW cincinnati. We have been very spoiled with BC here in columbus all these years. With the state of radio today we arent grooming guys like that anymore to step into this kind of position. Give Joel time to find his footing and see where the ratings go. Be happy we still have live and local in the morning on WTVN.

Wonder if the ratings for WTVN drop off significantly when Joel is doing mornings? Then it's time for WTVN to move over to FM? I doubt CC will move
him back to 93.3 and hire someone else for mornings on WTVN-AM. So, moving WTVN over to FM is the only move that makes sense to me if WTVN ratings do indeed drop over the next few months.
Personally, I do expect then to take a significance drop over the next few months or so. If they don't, I'll be very surprised! ;D

I think that's why I'm so prejudiced against him. He did that 9 am to Noon show and has been a fill in since then. He's had plenty of time. WTVN doesn't need someone particularly entertaining, just someone with either a good voice or at least the brainpower of an NPR host.

I have to say, I'm a pretty good judge of "vibe" - he ain't got it.

By the way, I don't react this way to anybody else local. I don't know why I react this way to Joel, I just do.

P.S. I think you are right about Jim Scott, but you have to admit he has more polish. I think that gets you over any deficiencies he might have as a host.

I'm sorry to keep harping on this, I just feel very strongly that being Columbus' only N/T station, we need some solid talent in that position. I don't know how smart or how much gravitas Paul Keels has, but listening to him is like listening to music. That would be my ideal.

True, but I can't see Keels leaving his setup as the voice of the Buckeyes to be a morning host at 610. I am guessing Keels has that job until he doesn't want it anymore.

Wow, IMHO, Keels is ok during the games but honestly, any time he has ever been a host of a show he has been so incredibly boring and stiff that I've turned to another station.

I'm not pushing for Keels per se, just someone who sounds as good as he does calling games in the job of morning host. The games really flow because of his talent - someone like this would be my ideal for the morning show.

I think that's the reason the Reds said farewell to him after one season, rather than the publicly stated "we weren't aware how much time his Ohio State responsibilities necessitated." ::)

610 has tweaked the morning show a bit, moving guest slots about, but, in the main, I find Joel much more boring than I thought I would.

My ipod is getting a heavier morning workout nowadays. It takes time to play over 4K songs, so I start early.
