Diginet shuffle

New subchannel alert, and it it's bad! Nosey, a streaming network consisting of Jerry Springer, Maury, Steve Wilkos, misc. court and reality shows is set to launch on WKYC 3.8. Yuk! I'll be deleting this one off of all my TVs.
You'll be happy to know. WKYC 3.8 scanned in "off air" early this AM, and was showing "Jerry Springer" (An early one, I'm guessing) before 11.

I'd rather my local cable company take away most of the "Big threes" digitals, and add WOCV and WIVM plus their subs to my cable lineup.

Subject of WIVM. They haven't regressed to showing "Nostalgia" on their main page yet. But rumor is that ThisTV is done, so I'm sure it's the current choice of replacement.

Is Retro TV available on any Cleveland/Akron area station? Most of their programming was crap, but occasionally they did air something worth watching.

I'm already in the process of blocking this network on my devices. It's sad to think that most of WKYC's subchannels are not worth watching. Cozi is about the only good one...most of the time.

Yep. I don't watch NBC or ABC anymore. FOX is just for The Simpsons, which I wish would conclude already. CBS does have some good sitcoms from time-to-time, with a few that are actually worth watching from the first to the final episode.

AMG ended This TV at the end of May. The Grio, as I hear, is also on the chopping block as well. Both networks (Grio as Light TV) were better under their previous owners. Weigel should have never left their partnership with This TV, and Light TV filled a niche with family friendly faith based programming without being heavy on religious messaging.

In recent years, none of the Cleveland stations wanted to pick up either network. This TV was on originally on WUAB, until moving over to WBNX. When This TV migrated over to Tribune's ownership, WBNX didn't want to deal with them and let their contract run out, replacing it with the similar formatted Movies network. WJW was also under common ownership with Tribune at the time, but just like with Nexstar's O&O Rewind TV, they passed on This TV. Had WJW been sold off to Fox during the Nexstar buyout, Light TV would have likely been carried on one of their subchannels, unless the station passed on it as well. Thus both networks would end up on a group of low power stations outside of the Cleveland area.

The Nostalgia Network looks like they have some good classic films. I starting to think that WBNX should have picked them up instead of Binge. Binge's limited programming has already gotten stale. As for WIVM-LD, it appears that no one in their web department has gotten the message that This TV is no longer their primary affiliate. Their website also needs to be updated to the latest standard, and it doesn't even fit on my screen. And man, is that Titan TV's long retired mascot on the right side of the home page? I've been using Titan TV for around 10 years at this point, and I don't ever remember seeing him.

Changes coming Monday July 1st:

WEWS 5.4 goes from Defy TV to Ion Plus

WUEK 26.3 goes from infomercials to Dare

KONV 28.2 goes from Law & Crime Network to Dare

WEKA 41.6 goes from RCTV to Dare.

So, three low-power HC2/Innovate stations pick up the new Free TV Networks multicast channel "Dare" (think Defy TV). Defy TV rebrands to Ion Plus, bringing back a station to OTA that was once "Ion Life". Locally, I'm wondering if another station picks up "Law&Crime"?

I don't get why we need 3 different stations all covering the same amount of ground affiliated with Dare. Same goes for Outlaw. Why does HC2 need to affiliate it on 3 different stations as well, seeing that WUAB already carries it with a much better reach then any of the HC2 stations in Cleveland. Looks to me that HC2 is running out of available affiliations to pick up here and needs to duplicate their existing ones. Time to sell a station or two.

Scripps News should be carried on a Cleveland sub channel. I know that it is on in Akron in channel 23, but that station does not reach my part of Cleveland. You would think that WEWS would run it (same company) on one of their subs but maybe they would rather lease it. Would be nice to have a 24/7 news channel on free TV. And I don't mean any of these quasi-religious "news" channels.

17/23 need to provide better coverage for the Cleveland area. Either move the transmitter closer to Cleveland or obtain a one or more low power station to serve as a repeater.

Scripps News moved to WDLI TV 17 a few weeks back.

WDLI - which comes in OK from my Newburgh Hts perch - has cable coverage on Spectrum, so it's reach increased exponentially when it moved to WDLI

A good portion of Scripps News stories are re-broadcasted on WEWS during the news, so it probably doesn't make sense to carry the network 24/7 on one of their subchannels. Sadly, it seems like a good portion of News 5 broadcasts consists of Scripps News produced stories instead of locally produced stories.

What would be nice is a 24/7 weather sub, much like NBC's Weather Plus and WOIO's Weather Now back in the early days of digital broadcasting. Stations are highly unlikely to do this now with streaming and smart phones, but it's interesting that WEWS never did this back in the day, seeing how weather focused they are.

What part of Cleveland are you referring to? What type of antenna? Scripps is on 17.1 as someone else mentioned but same tower and has decent coverage for the general area assuming you have a "real" antenna:

Try to get channel 17 or 23 in Rocky River/Westlake/Bay Village even with an outdoor antenna. These coverage maps tend to be exaggerated especially in fringe areas.

The map shows more green and yellow for those areas unless you live in the valley where it would be problematic. You didn't mention what antenna you use but a decent antenna as well as a preamp would be useful for distant signals.

Yes, but this time of the year, the trees have heavy leaf growth cutting back these weaker signals. I get 17 and 23 most of the time in the winter, but this time of the year, forget it even with a high-end Channel Master rooftop antenna.
