DirecTV FSN nets to be renamed "Root Sports"

Why don't they just keep the name they had? Im surprised the never went to the FS Pittsburgh name for example.

It's because all of the FS (Insert name) nets are FOX Sports O&Os. These three are just affiliates.

Thanks

Also about Altitude might they ever get the rights to the Rockies? As it seems thats the only major league sport FSN Rocky Mountain has.

Don't hold your breath.

Although Altitude is an ESPN Plus affiliate & carries college games (Mainly from the Big East & SEC Networks), don't count on them landing the Rockies as long Fox Sports has the national MLB rights to Saturday games in the regular season & most of the post-season.

Besides, their theme music isn't exactly anything to write home about (I'm still hung up on the FSN NBA & NHL theme packages ;) )

Cheers :D

That, and the fact that I believe the Rockies still own an equity stake in FSN Rocky Mountain. Plus, the Rockies are tied to a long-term contract with FSN Rocky Mountain at least through the rest of this decade.

What does that have to do with the Rockies being on FSN Rocky Mountain? This is a list of MLB teams* not on any FOX Sports RSN:

- San Diego Padres (Cox 4 San Diego)
- Oakland A's (CSN California)
- San Francisco Giants (CSN Bay Area)
- Chicago Cubs & Chicago White Sox (CSN Chicago)
- Baltimore Orioles & Washington Nationals (MASN)
- Philadelphia Phillies (CSN Philadelphia)
- Boston Red Sox (NESN)
- NY Yankees (YES)
- NY Mets (SNY)

and in the future

Houston Astros (soon to launch CSN Houston)

I did not include your Colorado Rockies, Seattle Mariners (FSN Northwest) or Pittsburgh Pirates (FSN Pittsburgh) for obvious reasons.

*U.S. only...Toronto Bluejays are out-of-country.

This decade ends next Friday. Do you mean the next decade?

Speaking of Sun and FSFlorida, the mic flags and logos for the most part reflect "Fox Sports". My thoughts were Fox was eventually going to phase out the regional titles for "Fox Sports".

So what is the "root" of this idea?

You forgot:

Cleveland Indians (SportsTime Ohio)

Damn! If my cousins from Lorain found out I forgot that one they would wring my neck.

:D

While on this topic I just went to the FOX Sports website and clicked under local which shows all the FOX Sport Networks. Why is NESN listed on their? Their owned half by Boston Red Sox and Boston Bruins. I know they show ACC Basketball because of Boston College.

That's the reason why they're listed.

Don't some Comcast Sports Nets air ACC Basketball also?

And I did a search for NESN and FOX Sports, it seems they made a deal where foxsports.com can link sports stories from nesn.com. Some website deal between FOX Sports and NESN. Could also be a reason maybe.

Yes.

CSN Mid-Altantic
CSN Philadelphia
CSN Chicago
CSN Bay Area

That's because they're the FOX Sports affiliates. CSN New England is the FOX Sports affiliate for everything but ACC Basketball.

Root Sports is still using the old Fox/FSN baseball graphics from the last few seasons on their telecasts today (Pirates @ Cubs, Diamondbacks @ Rockies, and Mariners @ Athletics); Fox itself changed their baseball graphics starting yesterday, and it's safe assume that they'll use those on Big Fox's regional package tomorrow afternoon.

I tuned in to ROOT Sports Pittsburgh and caught the 9th inning in the clear when I, too, noticed the old FOX Box. I will say this: at least they keep the graphics within the 4:3 screen. FS (insert name) does not. They don't even letterbox for SD subscribers.
