KO folks-- help a non-radio pro out with a legitimate question. Is DJ spelled as "disc" jockey; or, should it be "disk" jockey? The current Webster dictionary recognizes both, as does my spell checker, but older articles from the 50s seem to prefer "disk". I hate to even mention this in this context, but there was that genre called "disco". Care to weigh in on this?

Having been one long, long ago, I would go with "disc." Or you could use the ubiquitous "deejay."

From personal observation, it seems that while a disk does not spin, a disc does.
Meep, you are one of the few disc jockeys I've ever known who can legitimately lay claim to the title "on-air personality." (Speaking of which, I'm back behind the microphone come Monday.)
And speaking of microphones, it always grinds my gears when someone abbreviates the word "microphone" as "mike," rather than using the correct "mic."

I, too, have always been put out by the "mic" and "mike" thing as well as "disk" jockey.
I think sometimes I'm a bit too anal about those kinds of things...yet I must be me.
Just like people saying "65 DEGREES OUTSIDE." I always want to call them up and say,
"65 degrees outside....no kidding...I thought you were talking about 65 loaves of bread INSIDE the studio."
So, now, they often DON'T mention it at all...BECAUSE IT'S VOICE-TRACKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Quite glad--it's the most radio fun I've had in 15 years.
Afternoon drive/production at WHPH in Clanton (Birmingham), a small station that's getting bigger all the time. Great working environment, wonderful people, and a fun format where I get to play what I think works--plus, I actually have a cool rotary-pot board to run!
And in your honor, whenever I do the weather I say "65 degrees Fahrenheit," because we wouldn't want anyone to think those were degrees Kelvin.
It's not difficult, folks. Spell it with us: "Disc," and "mic."

Disc or Disk??????........seems to me that would depend entirely on how you pronounce it.
Just to toss some more confusion into this fracas: a list of available records (remember THOSE?) is called a disCography.
