"Disc", or "Disk?

KO folks-- help a non-radio pro out with a legitimate question. Is DJ spelled as "disc" jockey; or, should it be "disk" jockey? The current Webster dictionary recognizes both, as does my spell checker, but older articles from the 50s seem to prefer "disk". I hate to even mention this in this context, but there was that genre called "disco". Care to weigh in on this?

DISC JOCKEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I never did warm up to "Radio Personality." I knew way too many of them with none or very little!

From personal observation, it seems that while a disk does not spin, a disc does.

Meep, you are one of the few disc jockeys I've ever known who can legitimately lay claim to the title "on-air personality." (Speaking of which, I'm back behind the microphone come Monday.)

And speaking of microphones, it always grinds my gears when someone abbreviates the word "microphone" as "mike," rather than using the correct "mic."

Speaking of which...

You're glad to be doing that, right? Any details as to what and where?
I, too, have always been put out by the "mic" and "mike" thing as well as "disk" jockey.
I think sometimes I'm a bit too anal about those kinds of things...yet I must be me.
Just like people saying "65 DEGREES OUTSIDE." I always want to call them up and say,
"65 degrees outside....no kidding...I thought you were talking about 65 loaves of bread INSIDE the studio."
So, now, they often DON'T mention it at all...BECAUSE IT'S VOICE-TRACKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry I missed your last post, Meep. To respond:

Quite glad--it's the most radio fun I've had in 15 years.

Afternoon drive/production at WHPH in Clanton (Birmingham), a small station that's getting bigger all the time. Great working environment, wonderful people, and a fun format where I get to play what I think works--plus, I actually have a cool rotary-pot board to run!

And in your honor, whenever I do the weather I say "65 degrees Fahrenheit," because we wouldn't want anyone to think those were degrees Kelvin. ;)

It's not difficult, folks. Spell it with us: "Disc," and "mic."

Brother Mike congrats on the new job. I spent time in the B'ham market a few years ago.
While you're there you might enjoy talking to Doug Brewer, former radio guy and current mayor of Graysville (suburb). You can talk about a female jock that you both hired years ago.

Much obliged. And I'll look Doug up--we've lived here a year and there are still a ton of radio folk I haven't met yet.

And the screen name rings a bell... would you have a fondness for the music of Mrs. Vince Gill? If so, I trust you're still using your formidable radio powers for the good of humanity.

Disc or Disk??????........seems to me that would depend entirely on how you pronounce it.

Just to toss some more confusion into this fracas: a list of available records (remember THOSE?) is called a disCography.

Meepster: when I was at K94/KSMB, LafayetteLA in the early 80s, Dave Hubbell would cross-plug me: "And tomoro afternoon, be sure to drive home with Soxless Scott Segraves...Acadiana's true air personality...is that anything like playing Acadiana's true air guitar?"
