Dixie Chicks back in rotation Post Obama election?

I know of at last three local radio stations (KKGO/LA & KBIG/LA, as well as nearby KFRG/Riverside) that play heir music these days. KEEY is easily the #1 major-market country station in America based on local ratings, although there are several stations in larger cities with higher cume figures, with KKBQ/Houston leading the way, and KKGO not too far behind.

I've had to flip the dial many times from KBIG when the first few notes of "Landslide" have started playing on my radio... pales so much in comparion to Fleetwood Mac's original. Thankfully, they finally stopped playing that gawd-awful "Not Ready To Make Nice" song about six months ago - it apparently didn't call out well there. Now speaking of REAL Country music on KBIG, they've actually started playing Darius Rucker's "Don't Think I Don't Think About It"... it's nice they seem to be opening their eyes to new music - 6 months ago, they were still afraid to add new songs.

I have not heard them on KKGO in quite a long time... just checking their daily post-Christmas song longs on yes.com and am stilll not finding them anywhere. KKGO originally stopped playing them entirely around April... Paul Freeman then attempted to get them back on during the early summer...he routinelely tried to run them down the listener's throats during PM drive 2-3x or more a week for a good month and apparently there was some sort of listener backlash as it's been a good 4 months now since I heard them there...

As for KFRG, I don't know for sure... they're just outside of my listening area - if I lived 5-10 miles south I'd be able to hear them. They haven't played them today yet...

Here's a good bad radio program idea, On January 20, have a Dixie Chicks marathon.non stop for a few hours. and say goodbye to "W"... your station's listeners.

Fixed.

I'm amazed that 6 years later, we still have a few people with such a myopic vision on this topic. The problem really never has been "W"... it's always been Natalie. Thankfully, the Country listeners and industry as a whole have the pulse of it... bottom line is the listeners still don't want them anywhere near their radio stations.

I hope you're speaking tongue in cheek...'cause from what I know about music research, that would be a great way to destroy a radio station...

Ok guys ,I apologize, on a dumbarse idea,I got carried away with it. I don't want to kill off radio altogether.I'm Not trying to stick up for the Dixie Chicks as it sounds, I'm just like millions of people tired of 8 years of bullcrap.

Althou we never quit playing the Dixie Chicks and never had one complaint our program manager almost pulled all their music after watching their doc on PPV. The problem is Natalie's big mouth and downing country music and it's fans and it's like shes got a death wise on any future music projects she might have. Has for it just being country music who would drop someone try asking Jerry Lee Lewis if Rock music is faithful with their fans.

I'm not exactly sure what you're referring to in that last sentence and I certainly hope it's nothing to do with politics. If so it belongs on another board, and on another forum...

Precisely. I mean most Country music fans that were fans of theirs were also fans of other artists... Reba, Toby, Shania, Garth, Tim, Faith, George, etc... While she may have only intended at first on getting the ire of fans of the first two artists mentioned there, she ended up attacking the WHOLE COUNTRY COMMUNITY again and again with her misguided statements. And to this day, she refuses to apologize for them. Career suicide - that's not a smart road to take.

There is such a thing as evaluating music as music.    By all standards,  the Chicks have turned out some excellent music.   Six of their songs made it to number 1.    They don't seem to be turning out anything new but their oldies are worth playing.   Didn't one of the members say that she dislikes country music?  A comment like that could be more destructive than any political statement.

It was Natalie North's comment about George W. Bush that caused a number of country stations (Cumulus being the big one) to boycott their music.  While I don't followup on country music, I do remember hearing on Sirius radio that when their last album got released; Many country stations not only refused to play any of the then new material, but also refused to take advertising for upcoming concerts.  The stations that are intentionally refusing to play the Dixie Chicks are doing everything in their power to destroy their careers.  I don't believe they'll do that much damage, as the Dixie Chicks are crossing over into pop & AC slowly.
Ain't happening.  "Not Ready to Make Nice" was listed on Lightning 100's (Nashville's AAA station) playlist for a week when it first came out, but I never heard it played there.  Stick a fork in the chicks.  They're done!

Until the day comes that the the Chicks songs stop testing in the bottom 100 of a country station's music test, you're not going to hear them.

This never...never had anything to do with Bush, politics, Barack Obama, or even what Natalie said. The Chicks lost credibility with their country fans when they turned on them. ("We don't want our fans to have CD's of Reba McEntire and Toby Keith in their CD players...")

The first rule in country radio is: respect the music.

The second is: respect the fans.

The Dixie Chicks broke both of these rules. The sad thing is: they are very talented performers. You would think that one of their handlers at the record label would have clued them in about this...Or perhaps, by that time, they were too smitten by Hollywood to care.

Precisely, though I must add that Natalie is the one who uttered that quote about Reba & Toby and the CD players... the other two "chicks" rarely get to say much.
I believe it was actually Martie who made the comment about Reba and Toby in the CD players. They must have something against country artists from Oklahoma. (Must be that Texas/Oklahoma rivalry thing!) I'm still waiting for them to say something about Vince, and I wish they would come out against Garth!

Mix 92.9 (the AC station here in Nashville) is the only station I know of which has played both the Chicks' and Nicks' versions of "Landslide" in roughly equal rotations. So I took note of it when the announcer there played Fleetwood Mac's "Landslide" and claimed that theirs was the definitive version of that one. 8)

Supposedly, Nicks and the Chicks performed it together on VH-1 Divas or something, and the Chicks supposedly drowned Nicks out!

I think you're right there about Martie making that statement. Time makes you forget things sometimes. I don't think they care for Carrie Underwood either (another Oklahomian), especially after Carrie made that statement about loving COUNTRY music a couple of years ago - I think it was at the Grammy awards. Bottom line is they really don't seem to be very loving people no matter who or what you are and that turns people off.

Well, considering that little political stunt VH1 did a few years ago with their top 20 countdown (they gave them a "record breaking" run at #1 on it if you forgot), the occurance of this event should hardly surprise you. Yes, the "finished product" indeed had Nicks' voice all but drowned out. I'd be willing to bet the VH1 people actually purposely turned up the volume on them and Stevie's down just to make sure they were heard. It made me sooooooo sick to see what VH1 was doing with them back in 2006, just ramming them down our throats and falsifying their chart and request info.
