DO THEY NEED MORE RETRO COMMERCIALS ON THE RETRO CHANNELS?

It would be nice to see more retro commercials on Me-TV and Antenna TV. They should give
some kind of discount to advertisers willing to use retro commercials. I've seen so many
Hoverounds, Pelvic Mesh and Life Insurance adds over and over that my head is spinning.

Where are the Pepto-Bismol, Oscar Meyer and Alka-Seltzer adds when you need them?
 
For whatever reason these networks don't have local advertising. I don't know why, but there is either no interest from local advertisers, or the networks don't want to hire people to go out and sell the local ads I guess.
 
If we ask for that I'm afraid they'll just do more bad time compression and ham-handed editing so as to
not lose the revenue from the real commercials.

I see a fair amount of advertising on our local Me TV station (WPXI 11.2). Generally from very small businesses
that would not have the resources to buy spots on the main NBC channel. I guess it depends on how creative and
on-top of things your Sales Dept. is.
 
Retromercials are an interesting gray area. Who pays for those? The advertiser? Would I want an ad for a product that I no longer manufacture to be advertised (again)? (I'm guessing that most such products are available in "new and improved" versions, but even that may be open to debate.) What about a product that is no longer available and whose manufacturer has also gone out of business? I haven't seen such ads in a while, but it seems to me that many of them were not shown in their entirety anyway, so maybe no one was actually paying for the (re)airing of such ads. They were simply aired for their "retro" feel.

When Me-TV and Me-Too started in Chicago they used to run a lot of small business ads. They also ran a ton of public service ads too. You would see ad for a pet cemetery and a lot of ads for small attorneys. As the channels gained in popularity you stopped seeing them, so I guess the ad rates went up. Of course that was all when Me-TV was local
 
Plenty of local ads on WHEC 10.2 in Rochester. I would imagine they are "deals". Spill over spots from the main channel. However, I think I have seen some local ads that seem to be focused on the ME-TV audience.

I don't know I think some retro commercials for products still in service would fit in pretty good on
the retro channels.
 
Because of added commercial time from days gone by, there is no room for any more extracurricular (sp?) stuff during shows. Scenes are already removed during the shows; any more removals would lessen any plot!

I will say, though, as Antenna TV & This TV do show feature length movies, I suppose that any retro commercials could be stuffed at the end of a movie that doesn't end quite on the half hour.

This TV already shows Pink Panther/Inspector cartoons in between movies.

I'm not sure if MeTV shows movies at all---if they don't, it's best not to have them on Me, unless it's a kind of series or retrospective.

All I see on these retro channels are ads for Hoveround, Scooter Store [Doug Harrison], Dish Network ["I'm going door to door..."] and Sokolove Law as well as other law firms and Life Alert. WHERE's the retro ads? Would like to see some on there-even 1970s/80s would work.

The channels need to sell ad time to their respective corporations. If they don't want to buy, the ads won't air.

And like some have said they've already cut so much out of the shows to cut more just to see retromercials isn't worth it.

I Love Lucy was sponsored by Phillip Morris. We won't be seeing their ads on "Lucy" anytime soon :D
 
Many classic commercials, I'd say pre 1978, oughta be in the public domain, right? So as far as getting rights, it should not be an issue.

In these days of possible copyright infringement, I'm sure that whomever would air these would have to air a logo-bug in the corner, like "Another Classic Commercial from [station/network]."

That sounds like a good start on a proposal for the Beef-A-Roni people.

But does Beef-A-Roni want to buy a spot? And wouldn't giving them a discount rate necessitate selling more ad time? :(
 
A station I worked for ran Old Time radio shows off cassettes (before "When Radio Was") came along. They were recorded with all the commercials intact. We had to run disclaimer before and after the broadcast to disregard the commercials. We geared it toward Seniors and we did get a few calls at first wondering why they couldnt find such-and-such at their green grocer, lol.
