Doc Thompson's show is so terrible...

...that I am actually listening to Mike Gallagher on WMOH right now. I wonder how long it will be before I abandon "radio" altogether? ::)

Yeah.

He's not that great.

Like most bad hosts, in order to bolster his ego he disrespects callers, especially if they disagree with him.

He also tries too hard to be clever.

Bring back the 7 station ownership rule. Dereg worked in the 80's but in 2011, it clearly doesn't, unless you are a stockholder for the 4 or 5 conglomerates.

You'd think someone would have listened to WRVA a couple of times before they hired him. Anyone with ears could have figured out that his act is weak for Peoria, much less WLW. Either Doc has some embarrassing photos in his CCU photo album, or there's a severe lack of ears on the part of the news-talk programming leadership in the company since Gabe Hobbs left. But then, all one has to do is listen to five minutes of a Petrovsky airshift to know that.

After listening to Dan Carroll filling in for Willie yesterday, I think he could pull it off.

I think its because he sounds like he's winging it in a non-scripted manner-and getting it done in a way that's interesting.

It seems like the exact opposite of Doc Thompson, who tries too hard to be clever.

As far as I'm concerned he's "OK", certainly no McConnell (of course there is streaming of WGN for that). The idea was for Doc to do nights, then they quickly plugged him into middays after moving Sloane to afternoons. Maybe they needed to do a more thorough search.

Better yet, let the feds program all the stations. We can't possibly think for ourselves.

Yeah, because that's totally what he meant. ::)

The radio dial would be chaos if it weren't for the "feds", who set up the guidelines for broadcasting. Before they did that, there were dozens of stations all crammed in next to each other and causing a lot of interference to each other. Complete government control would be just as bad as absolutely no government control, there's a thing called the happy middle here.

The feds proper role is keeping stations on their correct frequencies. 7/7/7 would be totally impractical today. It worked when radio stations in big markets were owned by insurance companies, banks, and refrigerator companies. Geiko Insurance is not going to buy 7 radio stations oin 7 different cities, build 7 studios and hire 7 staffs. Some hobbyist isn't going to do it either. Even if that were to happen, tell me how that prevents WLW from hiring someone you don't like?

Doc's not on today!

If I was a host I would always be afraid of having a substitute host filling in for me...and having them being better.

What I find annoying about Doc is that so many things he says are factually wrong (and no, I'm not talking about politics necessarily) Case in point: the other day when he was discussing Jimmy Buffett, he had no idea what he was talking about. This seems to happen several times a week, at least. The same thing occurs when Marc Amazon strays from any topic concerning sports...

Had to laugh when Darryl filled in for Doc one day and complained about Doc's theme song (Peacefrog, by The Doors)... I agree with Darryl, that song SUCKS. It's on "Morrison Hotel" if anyone wants to hear it in it's entirity.

A few weeks ago, I landed on WLW during a late-morning band-scan [Laura Ingraham was in a commercial break, and the once-hilarious but now-tiresome Andy Furman-voiced "I just got rear-ended by a local radio station" ad was playing]. I was greeted by Doc's alliteration that Hustler Magazine Publisher—Larry Flynt was based in..... [??? – insert struggle for sentence compleation here]... "COLUMBUS!!!!!"

I'm waiting for a Charles Darwinian manifestation in mid-days at "The Big One" ;D

Hey Guys come on. He's got a pleasing voice and seems to carry Mike's old show well.
I know Mike McConnel is a hard act to follow...but at least they didn't keep the annoying, winey, Scott "Sloany" on.

Yeah instead they teamed Sloany up with another winey, annoying radio guy, Tracy Jones
