Doc Thompson's show is so terrible...

I'm gonna have to tune into this Thompson guy sometime. You all hate him yet continue to listen.

Personally, I got weary of McConnell. He sounded like he was bored, and I would imagine after doing it in the same town at the same time for over 20 years, he probably was.

Hey Guys come on. He's got a pleasing voice and seems to carry Mike's old show well.

Following that logic, I suppose Paul Lynde had a "pleasing voice" as well. ::)

I'll admit that I do continue to listen, but at shorter and shorter intervals with each gaffe that occurs.

McConnell began to sound "bored" around the time that his show was added to XM, causing most of his callers to be over-the-road truckers. Chalk it up to unintended consequences.

It's not so much Topic driven as it is Drudge Report Topic driven.

If you've already looked at Drudge the show is kinda boring with nothing new, nationaly speaking.

Tuned in and heard Doc blathering about the Chinese "turning panda poo into fuel"... turned it off until newstime. After the news, Doc had Marc Amazon on the phone. I certainly did not stick around to find out why. :)

Amazon is a lawyer turned DJ turned author and is going to be the night host on WLW.
Correct me if I'm misinformed.

Also this week Doc was talking about outragious surgerery procedures such as anal bleaching and a vaginal operation that makes you look like a Barbie Doll.

I find him interesting - but yes - he does know how to get the phone calls.

Let me guess. Drudge had recent headlines involving Poo Fuel, Anal Bleaching, and that Barbie one.

(I'm not even going to look and see, I'm sure they were there.)

Why not spend an hour staying on one topic like a Streetcar or why schools are getting high ratings despite all the recent cutbacks...get the listeners involved.

I think extended topics might bring in real information from the public and actually inform.

It sure produces more than spending your prep time on the above poo, bleaching, and Barbie topics.

Someone at CC must be reading these boards... That god-awful song "Peacefrog" by The Doors is gone from the opening of Doc's show.

The replacement?

"Tuff Enuff" by the Fabulous Thunderbirds.

That IS an improvement. A much smoother opening to the show.

3 Points,,,
First, Doc seems to copy Darryl's style (short-shortsighted, myopic view of the world) where he picks a subject i.e. a school levy, Ohio State, the Street Car...whatever,,, and argues against it so loudly that it drives calls. Not that good for Saturday morning, worse during the weekday!
Second, Dan Carroll or Gary Jeff (my preference) could do Midday fairly well and Dan seems to be well-read (something McConnell was great at!).
Lastly, McConnell is really in his wheelhouse. He hasn't sounded better in 10+ yrs. more power to him...

Yesterday (Tuesday) Doc must have spent 5 minutes trying to get a caller who worked for the USPS to agree that some pointless 'statement of fact' he had made about an issue was true.

She wouldn't.

So he spent (wasted) five minutes trying to make her agree to it (in Hannity fashion) for no obvious reason other than to somehow appear correct on other statements he was making.

That is pathetic radio.

They might get away with it if they were doing business in St. Ives, though... ::)

As I was going to St. Ives
I met a man with seven wives
And every wife had seven sacks
And every sack had seven cats
And every cat had seven kits. Kits, cats, sacks, wives
How many were going to St. Ives?

Only the one who was going to St. Ives.
