Does anyone know if anyone is playing Christmas music?

Doctor...say it ain't so. Mix 98.7 & Q-105 are the "Grinches that stole Jackson's Christmas Music?" ;D Zach...Energy is now "The Beat" (Classic Hip-Hop I believe). Check out the Phoenix board for the latest on that. For those of you old enough to remember "Burt & Kurt" mornings on 62-JDX, I stumbled across thier website and read where they are gone from WYDE-FM in Birmingham. They've been replaced by Mancow in the Morning followed by Laura Ingram...guess Birmingham's getting another talker. Any chance someone in Jackson would bring them back?

I was really surprised when I learned that Burt & Kurt were once on in Jackson. I grew up hearing them on Birmingham radio... I know they did mornings on "Oldies 106.9" at one point, but they may have also been on Magic 96 when I was a kid. I thought they were strictly a Birmingham thing.

Burt & Kurt were arguably the most successful morning show in Jackson radio history. In the mid seventies, they pulled in 40 shares in adults 25-54 on WJDX in it's flagship days(you'll have to catch Don Vaughn's column in today's Clarion Ledger to appreciate that "flagship" designation. No reason this board can't be educational and multi-faceted). I was a sales rep for JDX / ZZQ back then, and to even get ads on the show you had to buy at least three months out since there was so much demand for the slot.Bob Burton was the PD for JDX,as well. Never heard them in B'ham, but you probably heard a lot of characters that we were formed in Jackson. They left Jackson in '78 for Tampa/St. Petersburg over demands for ridiculous money.

Ditto TZ, When they left Jackson, great morning radio died. That darn Kurt is a hoot.Just a great team with awesome chemistry. They owned Jackson in AM drive.Got to spend time with them at a function for the American legion. It was a RIOT.

What is KXY's regular format? Larry, do you have a hand in the station?

Regular format TBA. Maybe I can hire Andy Hodges and go all-sports. Does anybody know where he is now?

Livng in PHX also, I can also confirm Kool and 99.5 playing non-stop Christmas. I don't know what Kool's factoring was in this flip, pheraps trying to beat 99.5 to the punch? Last year about this time I recall someone on one of these boards making mention of 99.5 being on the first stations in the country to do non-stop Christmas. Let it be known I hardly ever listen to either station and have no intention of doing so until after 12/25.

WKXY apparently will be unveiling a new format after Christmas.

Didn't know you lived in Phoenix. Been there a couple of times and rather enjoyed the place, except for the crusty Motel 6 I stayed at near dowtown! I heard that the dance station I heard a long time ago (Energy 92.7/101.1?) bit the dust. Do you know what they're doing now?

101.1 is rap/hip hop today, I belive, but they are always one of the ones being rumored to be flipping... Not sure about 92.7. BTW I stayed in Motel 6's for the first 3 nights I lived in PHX. Only one was real nice, built like a concret bunker in a decent neighborhood. They other two where real ghetto ass.

Mix 98.7 (WJKK) has started doing Christmas Music as of Black Friday and maybe Thursday Thanksgiving. They also have a web channel called the Holiday Music Channel where you can listen to Christmas Music all the time. And you can now pick up Mix 98.7 on the World Wide Web. I don't know whether it is for the weekends doing Christmas Favorites until Christmas but they are doing it this weekend.

I think they started Thanksgiving night with Tesh but doubt they'll continue full Christmas til Christmas. Their whole presentation sounds better this year and the music list sounds a little deeper. I guess that means CC will be following soon. Havent heard the stream yet but the website looks like there are two streams available. Wow. That'll be interesting.

Since you asked:

In Boston, this past Thursday morning, WODS/Oldies 103.3 flipped to all-Christmas at 6am. And 105.7 WROR (classic hits) flipped about 10 minutes before that.

Updating Boston/southern New England in case anyone cares:

-WROR and WODS, as already mentioned
-Lite 105/Providence
-B101/Providence
-WORC,Oldies 98-9/Worcester
-WSRS/Worcester
-I believe Cape 104 on Cape Cod (located somewhere around the Hyannis area)
-WERZ, southern New Hampshire (near the coast)

There are others I can't recall at the moment.

Way to go Mix 98.7! Gotta think the North Park Mall and Metrocenter shoppers and all those in between enjoy the music while in search of a parking spot ;D Grits...you're right...the presentation is good...been listening to their web streaming here in Phoenix. I hope they continue the streaming after the holidays.
