Don Imus to DJO

It's time for Imus to park the bus. Wait, he doesn't have a bus. It's time for him to tell his driver to park the limo.

Sorry jry. I am NOT wrong. I know what the Cumulus folks are offering now. I'm not completely out of touch with my former industry. Don't try that with me.

Whatever. I am not going to square off with you on this. Maybe they have changed their M/O and we are both right.
I say that because i received the comp checks. 8 grand a month AND the affiliate got a couple of spots to sell as well.
Now, granted, they REALLY wanted the market.

Jeez, someone on this blog has some real serious mental and hate problems. God bless you, get some help friend, you'll feel better about youself,
or try listening to Imus it may help your attitude. ;)

I do listen, that's why I say he should park the limo.

8 grand a month? For a tiny station like WDJO, with no other stations in the cluster to provide revenue, that may just be a lifesaver.

They *have* to generate revenue to keep the station alive. If Imus <yayy!!> and OSU <zzzzz> do that for them, then God bless em.

No, no..... I may not have been clear enough. The 8 large per month was for a different market in 2000 and on. It was a suburban station with decent coverage. A guy was doing a TBA with the licensee and one of his deals was with Imus in the Morning.
He also sold block time for sports play by play and other talk like Ollie North.
I just remember getting the payments and forwarding them to him THEN being approached by the syndicator to continue the deal.
Naturally, we changed format to Christian and Imus wasn't a fit.

I have no idea what they worked out over there.

They barter 115 minutes per week for the show. They are not getting paid.

In fact they can have Imus do commercials for clients and charge the clients. Imus does them for free to the station as part of the deal, but they are at the mercy of Imus for turn around.

Do you think that Imus sits on those or does he crank them out?

115 minutes outside of the show or total?

Should be outside 6am - 12 midnight.

They should get liners back pretty qiuck, since they apparently wanted back in this market.

It's kinda funny that Imus is on 1480 considering his past comments that got him into trouble. I say this because WDJO the old WCIN has the best coverage in Avondale/Bond Hill for 24/7. Considering the time slot and time of year that's where he'll be heard best.

Well, i'll use this thread to mention that 1160 is teasing some pretty big changes that will be happening very soon.....

Something that they've been working on for a couple of years.

jry, are you bringing Mike McConnell back to Cincinnati from Chicago? Is Burbank coming out of retirement?

I have knocked on the McConnell door and it isn't opening. Back when Jerry was still with WGN, he made it clear that they were focusing on Chicago. Sucks. During the time that Mike was doing the Chicago show from our studios, i joked that if the audio from his studio happens to bleed over to 1160, it would be out of my control.
I like him. Nice and genuine guy.
I held Noon to two open as long as i could.
So, i guess this deal is not THAT big but, its pretty darn big.

The new management of WGN is going to keep Mike focused on Chicago, no doubt. Almost everyone that was part of the management that brought Mike in (except Sean Compton) is gone, and Greg Jarrett was just canned so they could bring in Jonathan Brandemeier.

Was Mike at your place earlier this week JRY? He sounded like he was on remote, levels not right, miscues, etc. Just curious.

No, he cleared the building quite a while ago. He really liked our setup and we gave him the run of the joint (ISDN, printers, high speed internet, fax, etc.).
It was great having him around. The only thing that ticked me off was that i have known Kersting for a while and he never offered us anything for all of that. Don't even remember a "thank you".
I am sure he has some kind of set up at home.

While I love McConnell and Burbank and Fingers etc. etc. etc. I'm tired of hearing "bring <insert name here> back!" McConnell moved, Burbank retired and it's extremely possible that no station wants to pay Fingers the money he wants. <I have no inside info on that, it's just the only reason I can think of to explain his continued absence>

It's time to develop new names and fresh voices.

Here, here!

Ah yes!. I remember the days when WDJO was such a cozy place. It was all really Good Guys. Basicly, clean family fare...nothinging off color...sort of like WARM 98. Just some old fashioned DJ's like Dusty Rhodes or Dr. Boogie playing the hits.

Now welcome Don Imus in the morning. Who enjoys pushing the envelope and actually has in years past which got him fired before. This old DJ who actually sounds dead who once release a rated X comedy album is now on the air in Cincinnati discussing some girl who drank donkey seamon! He actually plans to interview this girl.

OK boys and girls.........And I know you get on here Marty...........With a car full of senior citizens and children this morning....I had to turn off DJO.....because Imus would not stop talking about this 'subject.'

What the hell is happening over there???!!! I'm done!

Couldn't have said it better. Several of us are "done" . From now on it is either the Ipod, XM, (sometimes) or Iheart Radio. Such a shame. The station has lost that connection with many of their loyal listeners.

DJO has gone from one extreme to another with Don Imus. Some of the senior citizens will finally
be introduced to shock radio at it's worse via DJO.

Very well stated wllmlos!

Donkey semen--- THAT is Heavy Sookie--- (or not)--

Guys---obviously if they could pay the bills playing oldies then they would---either the sales people really suck or there is no demand for a 24/7oldies station here in the nati. (or maybe a bit of each)

I do not listen to Imus- or much of any morning radio-- too banal--- Radio is my passion and as a fan it is still my great escape (I spent this amazing afternoon in the yard playing with the kids with richbroradio and Clear Channel's Cool Oldies BLASTING great tunes!!)

For me, droning chatter in the morning is best saved for my kids and maybe Fox News, CNN or CNBC--radio lost me as a morning listener a decade ago--

Do I wish we still had Dusty and were 24/7oldies? Hell yes! Do I still love having the chance to take requests and play the hits every day? Double Hell yes!
