Don Imus to DJO

WDJO can't be an easy sale. The audience is small and it's difficult for advertisers to see results. I think DJO is doing everything they can to make a go of it. I'm just glad I don't own an AM station. Especially on the right side of the dial. With the switch to talk and 70's music I find myself listening less. But then I'm not the target demo anymore.

The perfect AM station in the morning - give me a host/dj with personality, a true newscast, live traffic from a copter, some sports, some entertainment and music. I don't know when it happened or who said AM is dead, but when you have the same drone (white noise) or a heavily edited/voicetracked train wreck, you lose the audience. The consolidation of all of the major AM's by one company killed this market and talent.

I listen to various stations (commercial and non) along with iheart and pandora. The change on WDJO is a little noticable but it can be expanded from what it is (And was nice to hear it not switch to night pattern a little longer last night).

As for Imus, are the topics more late night Cunningham-ish at times? Yes. He does get the guests. That's the see saw that any station carrying Imus has to ride. I hope DJO, along with Real Talk and other stations hang on. That's the spirit of radio. Not even one's cup of tea. We could go back to the late 60's and have Percy Faith on WLW but that's not gonna happen.

I guess Neil young said it best yesterday in his interview concerning high def music... " I view radio as gone". To many of us, it appears that is true.

C'mon, admit it, Imus is the ultimate oldie. One more wrinkle in that face and he'd be a shar-pei. Would it be to much to ask him for an updated trip to Holyland, the wrold's first religious amusement park?

Most would view Neil Young as gone, having ridden off upon his crazy horse a decade of two ago.

As for Imus, he appeals to an older demo..the 62 + male, for whom even Cialis won't do the job.

:D

Neil Young, GONE?

No way.....

Here's a wild idea. Get Jerry Thomas out of retirement. He was mostly talk but played maybe 5 songs an hour. That would be a good compromise to all talk.
Or you still want a national personality?..Kasey Kasem is still sydicated...I think.

Casey is native to where i live.
The town had an anniversary a couple of years ago and flew him and Jean in for it.

Man, he is losing his mental faculties. Sad.

Neil's still here but as for radio (read his last line):

That's exactly what I had quoted.

Wonder what percentage of Cincinnati radio listeners know that WDJO exists, and more to the point, that Don Imus is on WDJO in the mornings?

Probably just us.

I don't care how small a station is...it won't break the bank to put an ad somewhere.

If you can't spend 3% to 5% to promote yourself than close the doors.
There are too many seasoned pros at that station. It's not fair to them.

In their defense.... When was the last time anyone saw a board for 55KRC or 700LW (except for the Reds games).

Everyone knows who KRC and WLW are.

Perhaps the target audience for DJO has already had their auto keys taken away from them by a concerned relative. "Now dad, you know you ran over your second crossing guard last week, and the week before, you backed into my Subaru. My Subaru, dad! I love that Subaru. It tells everyone where we stand on so many issues."

Is it just me or is the "I" sounding more and more like Burbank's
Gilbert Gnarley (G-N-A-R-L-E-Y)

No but Mike Gavin's Rusty Ristorante spots have been sounding like Gilbert for months. And it's still nice to hear Shad hawk Zins Plumbing and the Harley spot. I can see him EEEEEnunciate with precision! ;D
