Dori Monson's off Seahawks broadcasts for transphobic tweet

Good riddance to the person who most personifies "radio face, newspaper voice". A note to his fellow conservative ****** bags: The world's changing and you're going to end up on the wrong side of history.

This "cancel culture" BS needs to stop. There is no science behind changing your gender on your birth certificate. Every single person that has ever existed has said something "wrong" in there lives. Probably in the last few days. We should all be cancelled? You, and I, need to look in the mirror and get our own lives in order before you go after someone else. Calling someone a "conservative d-bag" offends me. You should loose your job, correct? Oh, wait, it only goes one way. I forgot...

The fact that the suspension only applies to the Seahawks pre & post game show tells me the Seahawks may have called for it. One of the NFL charities is The Trevor Project:

https://www.nfl.com/news/learn-more-about-the-trevor-project-and-national-coming-out-day

The linked article said this:
Other social-media users said Monson’s latest tweet seemed at odds with some of the Seahawks’ platforms regarding social issues. Seahawks players in 2017 established the Seahawks Players Equality & Justice For All action fund, which has a stated goal of supporting education and leadership programs supporting justice and equality.

He wasn't suspended from his daily talk show. Just the pre & post game.

Just stop with the passive/aggressive stuff, please. I hear far-right folks calling progressives "snowflakes" and it is so obviously projection. You are not at all offended...unless you think that the left thinks ALL conservatives are d-bags. Which we don't. Just the ones who are not willing to be responsible for their actions and comments.

It absolutely goes both ways. It's just that for the first time folks, mostly straight white old men like me, are finally being called out on their racism, sexism, misogyny and so forth. Yes, you have the right to say whatever you want, as long as you are willing to accept the consequences of what you say and do. You know, personal responsibility. Used to be a conservative trait. Still is with the ones who aren't d-bags.

He's a professional broadcaster, and very good at that job. Dori is the spokesman for my company, and my livelihood to a certain extent depends upon him. We are regular advertisers on KIRO-FM. He knows he screwed up- he is paid to communicate. And he's not dumb. He will make it right.

KIRO will likely keep him on air- he is a mainstay to the operation. The Seahawks are reaching out to everybody in the community, and I doubt they will want him back. It's not personal, it's just business.

"He's a professional broadcaster, and very good at that job."

Here is where we disagree. I don't think he is very good at that job. Perhaps he is meeting some minimum early afternoon ratings numbers, and some solid favorable research, but wouldn't be too difficult when KIRO is the only real local talk station in the market. I believe KIRO could do better. The Seahawks have apparently already made that decision.

I just look at the results my employer gets compared to other channels and other media. He definitely is good at motivating his listeners to call us. And since KIRO is a commercial broadcaster, I am not sure what other metric to go by. I am not particularly a fan of his work or his delivery or his pandering or much else, but what I personally like isn't germane. He gets results. We've been really happy. And we spend lots of money every month because of those results.

So you generally agree with my post but are using results to prove your point. I get that. My question is could they do better? I think so. And yes get him off Seahawks broadcasts. They also could do better.

He was not on the air Friday (10/9) per management. He is still on the website. Maybe a short time out?

Other sources say he was suspended from both. Maybe management wants the weekend to plan their next move and somehow convince all of Monson's endorsement clients that Todd Herman can do just as good of a job.

I normally don't mind Dori Monson and his KIRO-FM show and Seahawks halftime/postgame commentaries, but that went too far. I think he should apologize. After all, he's been at KIRO (both 97.3 and the old news/talk 710) since the '90s, right?

What baffles me is why they keep trying to force right wing talent onto that station when they have an AM that does it full time. Rantz, Herman, and when Monson's in time out, along comes Rantz again.

Personally I can't stand Rantz's voice, regardless of his politics.

At this point I wonder why they fired Ron and Don other than to try and shoehorn another conservative into the lineup.

Remember what happened when Rush Limbaugh became a guest commentator on Monday Night Football?

Dennis Miller wasn't much better.

https://bleacherreport.com/articles/50977-monday-nights-with-dennis-miller

Or WEEI Boston's John Dennis and Gerry Callahan, right-wingers who compared a gorilla that escaped from a zoo to a black student from Boston waiting for a bus to the suburbs. They got two weeks.

The last two responses are typical from those who don't know the market.

Monson began doing pre/post 18 YEARS ago. He's not like Rush, Miller or whoever those other examples were. Those examples are irrelevant to this discussion.

Dori is a Seattle native and was a PE teacher (IIRC) before becoming a talk host. The Seahawks loved his work. Until last Wednesday.

They're relevant because they're examples of taking people who aren't sports broadcasters or athletes and putting them in that space.

Does Dori attend the weekly Seahawk's press conferences? He can't because he's on the air at that time.

He doesn't have to attend the press conference, he has the actual coach on his show for a half hour every week.

He's trying to live a dual life, as a sports guy and as a conservative talk show host. Every now and then, those two lives will conflict.

As far as the d-bag comment, I was referring to valvashon in the post above. Many are "snowflakes" and are looking to be offended or triggered. Just go about you life and make you way and stop complaining about everything. I guess I will stop now so I am not complaining. The people that call for tolerance and inclusiveness are the first to want to silence anything they don't agree with. That is a fact and wrong on many levels.
