Dothan Changes

Keep an eye on the folks at Tragic! There is a movement to rebirth the stations and put that cluster back in the limelight. Do not count Don McCoy and his team out!

Yawn if you like but time will tell. Don may have not been involved in the day to day operation in some time but in thier current situation somebody has to step in. There will be a new team at the helm and the "magic" will be back. Yes it will be an uphill battle with lots of obstacles to over come.

Zuzu nailed it above. Different color smoke with mirrors bought through a clear channel intermediary on e-bay. Time will tell. AP back? Wouldn't surprise me. I'll repeat myself from a post from a post of approx 16 months ago; AP leaving didn't hurt magic nearly as much as the fact that she took Carrie Williams (sales person) with her. I'll agree with nuff about it being an uphill battle with obstacles. Good luck. Now back to my nap on these cold, hard concrete courthouse steps.

Hope each reader of this post has a very Merry Christmas!

As I am told there is a new GM on the 8th floor along with some new sellers and the same air staff that is stretched pretty thin. What do you guys (girls) think it will take, if anything, to bring this cluster back to a competive edge. The one thing for sure is a dedication to winning by Don and his group plus some dollars for promotion and staffing! I would think it will be hard to squeeze out dollars to attact listeners when the coffers as so bare.

Don is the invisible man. He's no longer involved. He has ownership but no authority or involement in management. He's been out of the country for the last month. The railroad boys with the deep deep pockets are running the show. The deep pockets are all the cluster has going for it, which isn't a bad thing. At least until the economy comes back.

Not even the Magician could save that cluster. When the book comes out next month, look for there to be no Tragic stations in the top five, only one in the top ten, and that will be by default because it has no competition in the market.

I've got to disagree with you windsofkain. I think they will have one, maybe two, kmx and LDA. kmx may actually win the 18-49 and place second 12+ and 25-54 based on the tremendous strength of their under 30 audience. Remember that in this market book placement has extreme impacts on the numbers. WOOF may have the worst book they have had in a while but they shouldn't worry, when you run spot loads that are 6 or 7+ minutes and do 4 of then an hour that allows the competition with virtually no spots per set and only two an hour to make big moves in the AQH. WOOF's ads seem to be getting results for customers since the local guys keep buying (locals don't give a hoot about arbitron), their on air talent is just that, talent, so listeners come right back to them. Here's my prediction 12+: DJR, WOOF, KMX, LDA and ESP. Depending on book placement (Geneva Co or Henry Co) USD or TVY may slip into the top 5. But no matter how it ends up, WOOF will continue to keep smiling all the way to the bank with TRP coming in the door right behind them.

Ratings are nice, but they are unfairly the measuring stick used to grade jocks when less than 3 (or just over) out of every 1000 residents make up the survey. The most important elements in this economy for the success and longevity of the station ........wait, need to just shut up and sit back down on the courthouse steps.

Stewy,

Thanks for the kind words and prognostication concerning STAR 100.5. Should do pretty well in Dothan. Has a 5 share 12+ in Montgomery and a 13+ share 35-54 as well. My only New Years wish is that they don't cobb it up in 2010. It's not as easy to blend as they think.

speaking of book placement, the Coffee Co vs Dale Co sample load also has a remarkable effect on several stations ratings outcome

Actually the cluster has a couple of things going for it that most clusters would die for: committed owners with very deep pockets and two very marketable brands - WTVY and WKMX. All they need is new leadership, which they are apparently going out and getting. They have a new GM, a new veteran GSM and a new veteran ops manager. They brought in Broadway to fix WTVY and KMX is getting some badly needed attention. They have some new jocks and some new salespeople. In stock terms, I'd say Tragic might be a "buy" right now or at least a "watch". WOOF is WOOF and is a "hold" and TRP is a "sell". Of course, I have been wrong before.

As long as you are using stock terms, Darkman, it should be pointed out, in the interest of full disclosure, that this is your third post which, along with the previous two, provide what is apparently favorable inside information regarding Magic Broadcasting. I will take my father's advice and not act on stock tips from interested parties.

What inside information? That they are thinking about bringing AP back. Dog, if you think I know something, go back and re-read my posts. The rest is well known and has been posted before. And in the interest of full disclosure, if you think this is my third post, you haven't been paying attention.

I dunno dothandarkman. The statement by you that Don has been out of the country for the past month
sounds "inside" to me. Not that it matters....I have been paying attention. Carry on

Oh that. What's up Petals? No, man, somebody hacked into Mr. McCoys email while he was traveling around Europe. Everybody on his contact list got an email asking to send money so he could come home. Pretty sure it's true because I've heard it from about three people. As far as AP coming back, buzz is that they have some top secret female voice coming back that has worked there before. That narrows it down to about five people. Just thought it might be AP because of the top secret part and because I hear the wheels are coming off at TRP. Like I said, I've been wrong before. But I've also been right before! Peace.

I seriously doubt it will be AP comimg back her and Broadway don't get along. Could be Elizabeth maybe? she is the one that has been knocked to part time at Kickin.

It's Wendy.

Could be but that doesn't sound right to me. Why would that be so top secret? I was told it was someone who left because they couldn't get along with KVD and now that KVD was sent packing they are interested in coming back.

Been contemplating your "stock terms" assessment and it makes sense. With AP returning with rumoured new studios for TVY located at
Country Crossings it leaves TRP with USD and what to do with it. Somewhat chaotic.
