Dothan Radio 2010

Hey Zuzu

Love ya mean it man!! LOL you know my wife took that pic of me.... any I must admit I don't look my normal sexy self in the photo... LMAO!

I really hope you don't take any of this stuff to heart.... except the part about doing something in 2010 to make a difference.

I think you and I are alike in the aspect that we both write how we feel and call it like we see it... that's my biggest problem. I need to work on tact. I like what I'm doing in Dothan and I'm hoping that we can move forward this year in a positive direction.

I enjoy your posts! Fun to read! I'll let you know when I make a trip to Dothan... we all should get together for lunch and exchange war stories. Might be a fun way spend a lunch hour!

dothandarkman,
No one is ganging up on you, it just feels like it. I'm sure you're doing all the right things; Live 24/7, morning team, traffic reports, production department writing and producing compelling spots and promos and a sales team. If you've never heard of Clear Channel, Cumulus, Citadel and Nextmedia, then I guess you don't know what greedy is.
Who said I was a business titan, I certainly didn't. This is just simple radio 101.
Poo pooed, what's that? Some kind of baby talk?

TRP
WDJR continues to be one of the top two stations in the market. WUSD, thanks to terrible revenue numbers, is flipped to Hot AC before February 1st. WESP and WDBT continue to plod along.

Tragic
103.9 changes formats again, very likely back to rock. 100.5 makes a bigger splash in the Arbitron numbers than initially predicted. WTVY brings back Wendy and possibly Amiee Pollard, but continues its downward slide to oblivion. Tragic brings in a new PD for WKMX before March 1st and flips the format to Hot AC, reacting to TRP’s flip of WUSD, and abandoning the poorly focused Top 40. 93.1 continues to sound musically lost and bleed money.

WOOF
The FM maintains its place as the market’s top station, pulling in mountains of cash, as usual.

The urban stations on the north end of town won’t change much. It would really surprise me to see Tragic still in the market at the end of the year, if they don’t sell out sooner than that.

WDJR and WOOF have remained "consistent" for years and the numbers shows that. Both have had little turnover on airstaff and both stations reach to the community, which is what you need to do to win in any market, whether a major market like Phoenix or a smaller market like Dothan. I agree about changing 103.9 back to ROCK! It should have never flipped too begin with. All I can say from spending a lot of time in Dothan when I was on 97X was we would always draw crowds where we went to Dothan and would always have tremendous support from Dothan. I think maybe a "Everything That Rocks!" type format like what we do here at 933 KDKB would make it real interesting. You already have an AMAZING talent and a "Staple" for Rock radio in Dothan with Jess Bailey in house! A format of any kind needs more than three months to determine if it has any "Growth" potential. But that was a Bluewater decision and they are gone. Unless the sports is making huge revenue numbers I would change 103.9 back to a ROCK format of some kind. I would just think about it before you make it a "NEW ROCK" format as 97X still has a presence in the Dothan market.

Has Amie already bolted "Kickin' Country" or is that speculation? I know the "major" format in Dothan is Country. WTVY has those "Legendary" calls and if anyone can turn WTVY around it is Jerry Broadway. If Amie returns to WTVY, it will be a great battle with WDJR it will be fun to folllow.

As far as WUSD going with a CHR format to take on WKMX. Like that old adage says "Competition only makes you better", just like WDJR and WTVY going head-to-head. It is just good radio when two stations go at and the old statement, "may The Best Station WIN!" I am not well versed in CHR wars, so I won't make too many comments on that. I guess I have done enough "BABBLING FOR AN OLD MAN!" for one night. I hope Stewy finds his way to comment on this!

I just want to say Happy New to everyone and I hope to see you all in 2010.
