Double T 104.3

To back up RG, it's the 27th.

Also, I have to agree with OLD NICK... even though I enjoy the fact that someone is doing something positive in the Lubbock radio market... hiring people etc... I think the station will ultimately not make much noise. During football, yeah, there will be some noise. However, after that... what? I do wish them the best of luck though. Maybe they have figured out something to keep them fresh and topical all year round.

how long did Ramar do talk on 97.3? i'm thinking it was 5-7 months, before they pulled it.
TT 104.3 is a Big gamble for them- but at least they're doing something bold. you can't win if you play it safe. you will either win big or lose big, then move on.

Agree'd. This will be the first all sports station on the FM dial in Lubbock history. I always find it cool when a station tries something different, so I give my hats off to Ramar. When it comes to the numbers, it will not come out on top though. Look at the Dallas market and look at the numbers the sports stations there pull off. I wish Ramar the best of luck with 104.3.

Too bad about Hot though. I really thought that station had a lot of potential.

I think this is a bold move that will pay off well. Houston had a dilemma like this when KGOW 1560 The Game showed up. They had some old tried and trues in the morning (John Granato and Lance Zeirlein), some newspapers names with limited radio experience (Ken Hoffman and Richard Justice), and a few new names (Raheel Ramzanali, David Nuno, John Harris, and 5-time Smack-Off Champion Sean "The Cablinasian" Pendergast.)

In less than two years 1560 has won the mornings, first local in afternoon, and climbing fast in drive-time. They also have added Sporting News Radio which switched from their main competitor Sports Radio 610.

This move could be an interesting and exciting thing for Lubbock sports Radio. A risk this big in a small market like Lubbock could be tough, but if they pull through their staying power could be established quickly.

That's interesting to know about Houston. Seems like one of these sports stations should do well. I don't believe there are any sports stations that pull in any ratings to really write home about, but you're talking about mainly men who make decent money and are pretty passionate about what they're listening to. Sounds like the best combination to me, which is probably why more than one sports station can survive in some of those larger cities. Real question will be who does it here, the older, tried version. Or whoever winds up on 104-3. I don't think there's really any competition between Tech Talk and any of the other sports shows for information as well as fun back and forth between the on-air talent. It should be interesting to see what other competition there will be, especially if they put on an afternoon show.

Similar subject, I've heard Robert Pratt say he has incredible listenership. But it would seem his audience is just the opposite, old people who don't want to spend money on anything. I saw one of this listener events downtown and I thought it was a nursing home visit. I heard him just screaming the other day and the sound was dropping out, presumably because something was overmodulated by his voice. It had been a while since I tried listening. I bet KFYO could draw just as strong of a listenership with Chad Hasty in the afternoons. His morning show has really become a great listen. I like the 950 guys also, but Chad's show has fair opinion and is fun to listen to, plus the ammo report! Anyone following Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity has an automatic advantage. Chad covers things more interesting than what some small city council across the state is doing or how his buds on city council are angels. For that matter, Hyatt could probably do a more listenable political show, but he's doing pretty well sticking mostly to sports.

Anyways, we will see what develops in the next week, I suppose.

The one thing I hope 104.3 brings is an attitude that will not be usual ho-hum media. When Mike Leach makes mistakes I want the radio media to go after him unlike Williams and Hyatt who worship the ground he walks on. When he goes behind Tech's back I want the media to call him out.

The current regime of Lubbock media has a too narrow small approach. I understand that Tech is the main topic, but the media follows blindly. I would just like someone to bring some opinions that aren't what I can figure out myself. I hope 104.3 brings good insider info and good opinions which can in elicit a response from listeners.

Even though they haven't signed on yet, I think they are off to a good start promoting the station. I have seen the Double T 104.3 commercial numerous times in the past few days. And yes, the commercial does confirm that the official launch for Double T 104.3 will be on the 27th.

Cstoots, they won't call out Leach on anything and expect to keep their job. Ask Steve Dale how his difference of opinion with the coach worked out for him. The bigger question now is will 1340 grow some nads and call out the university on issues instead of having to stay in line because of a potential loss of revenue?

They're using a pretty innovative way to change from the old station to the new one. I have enjoyed listening to some big Tech football victories. I guess Tech is undefeated on the new station. It's been cooler around here the past few days, so it feels like fall.

Chad's show is surprisingly good!
KFYO better hold to that kid! Chad has brought entertainment back to KFYO.

Well...?
Did anyone else listen today?
What did you think?
I worked yesterday so I didn't get to listen to it hardcore. From what I heard, it sounded OK. I liked listening to the Bottom Line. The morning drive was a little sloppy. Sounded like the DJ's were either talking too far away from their mics or their mics were turned down too low. For a first day though, it wasn't too bad. I need to give it a better listen though to give it a proper review

Seeing that the morning guys are not radio folk... I hope for their sake they have a producer that is. With that being said... well, it doesn't matter. Good luck to them and the rest of the staff.

Listening right now- not sure if it's live or a taped bit, but the audio is very FUZZY and unlistenable.

I can't understand a word the guy is saying.

Oh wait, they're interviewing a jock- never could understand mumbling "jockspeak".

Commercials are much more clear.

Several jingles / station promos back to back, all with the same voice- that gets old real quick.

Lots of buzz in the signal- sounds like a crappy AM station. Really hard for me to listen to for any length of time.

For an FM, the processing leaves MUCH to be desired.

Flipped over to 1340 for comparison- OMG!! Audio is very clear- much better audio. KKAM sounds more like an FM than 104.3...

Just be glad you're not in one of the Top 20 markets. people would be ripping about how bad the new show is after a few minutes of listening. Makes me wish I was still in Lubbock. At least people are willing to give it some time.

Yeah. The jingles are a little repetitive. It gives me a headache hearing the name "Double T 104.3" every few minutes. As for the audio, it is a bit fuzzy. Sort of reminds me of 103.3 in Dallas, but I found it listenable at least.

It's on its first week though. Perhaps things will improve when the TTU football season starts.

Something else interesting I heard was a jingle about Texas A&M. I think it said, "At Texas A&M, we walk on the grass." I know it's just a joke and all, but do you think making jokes about other schools could potentially make the station look bad?

I never listened to 104.3's prior format, so I've no idea if they had the same audio problems before the switch, but I would think it should sound BETTER than what's on there now.

I've tried several different receivers here in the office and the trash in the audio is horrendous no matter which radio I use.

I'm talking about the technical quality of the signal mind you, not the programming content.

TT 104.3 just sounds terrible.

...I know it's just a joke and all, but do you think making jokes about other schools could potentially make the station look bad?

I doubt it. For a "flagship" FM on which the hopes of the company are riding this Fall sports season, which sounds WORSE than most of the AM stations in town, I really don't think they are overly concerned about upsetting the delicate sensibilities of their audience. Besides, it's the "guy thing" to do right?

If I can suffer through their audio long enough, I might actually hear some of the content and offer a critique.

Sorry...not to be a smart ass or ruffle anyones feathers here, and this may just be the old radio guy coming out of me, but...I've listened to TT104/3 and I've yet to hear a 'jingle'. I've heard some recorded 'liners'/'sweepers' for imaging but no 'jingle'.
