Double T 104.3

crystal clear in my office so far, but the guy down the hall can't get a clear signal on his radio. I think the noon show was on location in Dallas.

Listening right now- not sure if it's live or a taped bit, but the audio is very FUZZY and unlistenable.

I can't understand a word the guy is saying.

Oh wait, they're interviewing a jock- never could understand mumbling "jockspeak".

Commercials are much more clear.

Several jingles / station promos back to back, all with the same voice- that gets old real quick.

Lots of buzz in the signal- sounds like a crappy AM station. Really hard for me to listen to for any length of time.

For an FM, the processing leaves MUCH to be desired.

Flipped over to 1340 for comparison- OMG!! Audio is very clear- much better audio. KKAM sounds more like an FM than 104.3...

This. ^ Glad to hear Collin Cowherd again.

I've listened in my home office and in my truck and it's crystal clear. It still doesn't sound as clear as other FM stations, but at least I can listen in my house, something I can't do with 1340. The earlier post is right about the quality, at times the words on Tech Talk today were clearer on 950 than on 104.3. I'm assuming that's something they're working on. Otherwise, what good are all the investments their making. But maybe it's something to do with the transmission of everything remotely, because I remember football games being tough to listen to at times on 94.5, it had a scratchy sound.

I have yet to catch the morning show. The afternoon show has actually been pretty good, for the few hours I've listened to it. I just left the store yesterday when I had 1340 on and a caller had to inform Hyatt about the Favre announcement. Seems like of all people he'd know about that. That show has really lost a few steps over the past few years. Seems like it was best back in the early part of this decade. I believe one of the hosts of 104.3's afternoon show, Casey, used to work at 1340.

It does sound like there are some technical issues with 104.3, though. Altogether, sounds like a pretty good start. Mike Leach was pretty funny telling a story about museums today on Tech Talk. And I'm glad The Herd is back on the air.

Sorry...not to be a smart ass or ruffle anyones feathers here, and this may just be the old radio guy coming out of me, but...I've listened to TT104/3 and I've yet to hear a 'jingle'. I've heard some recorded 'liners'/'sweepers' for imaging but no 'jingle'.

Yeah, I was about to write the same thing!
I think people are confusing "jingles" with "sweepers."
-Jingles are sung, sweepers are not.
-A promo is like a sweeper, but a little longer.
-An ID where the DJ speaks and then the station image and name is introduced off a ramp is called a " 1-2, punch." Without singers, they are "anti-jingles."

they're muddy, it sounds like they've turned off the Stereo button, to help that signal.

Hyatt was broadcasting from New Mexico for the first part of the week, and the person he was talking to was the producer of the show. Not out of touch, just out of the state doing a show from a bar. Casey was Hyatt's producer for a short time and before that was the co-host of The Chad Hasty Show on Saturday's on KFYO.

My mistake BVG!!!

If there is anything that TT104.3 is doing right, it's promoting themselves. I have seen quite a few TT104.3 commercials on Fox 34. I don't think i've seen one Kiss FM commercial since they rebranded. Kiss FM just kinda snuck in quietly. KSTQ on the other hand promoted themselves well before the flip -- even going as far as to alerting their listeners via text message when to flip.

You're giving them too much credit. Ramar throws TV promos for every station they own on Fox, MyTV and CW, which is easy since they own those. Hot104.3 had plenty of spots too. But wake me when TT shows up on KCBD or KMAC.

That said, lets put credit where credit is due:
I think TT104.3 is off to a good start! Becuase they had the rights to the Texas Rangers, the station was ready to go out of the box. Not to knock KKAM, but they have only two live shows, and only one of them is entertaining, W & H. The other is really a leased time show. Jack Dale pays for his slot (had that lecture a loooong time ago). OTOH, 104.3 has 3 LIVE AND LOCAL SHOWS. Also, hearing the Rangers in HiFi was AMAZING! It brought a whole new life to something that for so long seemed like it was just a game somewhere else. Also the sports updates in addition to the local udpates have been top notch.

Meanwhile, it takes the clutter (and technical glitches) off of 950. After the Rangers games, you have to switch back to the other TSN, which is hectic and doesn't always work. Instead, RAMAR has now matched the old Gulfstar, with one News Talker and one REALLY GOOD sports talker. Also, have you seen thier studio? AMAZING!

Ray and Brad have brought things to a whole new level. I can see now that getting Texas Tech sports is the big prize they have been dreaming of. Now the big day came and they were ready!

It sounds like 104-3, like probably anything you do, is gaining strength day by day and sounding good. Their local sportscenters are actually covering football recruiting in addition to baseball, etc. Garrett is right, the Rangers games have been pretty good. Even though they lost I sat on my back porch and listened to the game while that storm moved in. For the TV commercial, it is done real well. I don't know who produced that 104-3 commercial, but it has great video at Jones Stadium and great sound from Brian Jensen.

From the earlier post, I though Hyatt mentioned he was in New Mexico. I'm pretty sure, though it was a caller that brought the issue up and had to explain. You'd think he'd just let someone else fill in and take a deserved vacation.

Now I remember...Casey was on Chad's show some. He is doing a great job on the afternoon show. I heard them mention before the flip that they would stream, I'm guessing that's coming sometime soon. Then you'll be able to listen to their shows on radio, Internet and TV. That studio does look nice.

this proves that Ramar has the means to do things right, if they put the same MEANS along with the right people into other efforts, they will make headlines, ratings and $$$$$$!

A little surprised they left Tech Talk from 11 to 1, thought they'd move it to morning or afternoon drive.

Snead and Gus will succeed because they know a lot of people but from what I've heard so far, the show is not good. They are all over the place.

The afternoon show has lots of potential but is it strong enough to take down W&H? Ryan and Don still both have lots of contacts, these new guys will have to develop those.

I actually stood behind one of the on air guys at United the other day and he assured a person he was talking to that they'd be streaming soon but color me skeptical.

Garrett you must be impressed as I don't believe I've ever read anything positive from you regarding Ramar. ;D

I agree Snead and Gus will improve. Those guys know too much sports not to. They are a little raw right now but its better than the option at 1340 by a long way. I really like the afternoon guys Casey and Nick. All in all, I think that the station is off to a good start. Can't wait for football to kick off so that the talk can really heat up.

That's a great point, nutpos. We're making all these decisions with only one real sport ongoing. I usually start listening to sports radio more after the all-star break as football is nearing. This year I've been catching a lot more sports and a lot less national politics. Really, I don't find the national pundits all that interesting anymore, it just doesn't seem as fresh and fun as sports. I've enjoyed the offerings on 88.1 since it came back, at least that's something different.

So more or less Ramar hired the fill-in hosts and board-ops away from KKAM and they think they're going to build a dynasty?

This is the first day I've listened to much of the morning show. Snead and Gus sure are a lot more interesting than Sportsline and you don't have to do the ignore Steve Dale routine. I grew up listening to Jack Dale, so I have utmost respect for him. I bet 104-3's morning sports show should get going pretty good by football season, but you can tell they are new together.

Watts...I didn't know these guys were fill-in hosts on 1340. What shows did they do? I've listened less over there over the past few years. I know they would have them on from time to time in the morning and on Mark Finkner's show as guests. But I didn't know they were filling in. I guess Ramar has experimented with taking guests away. Robert and Chris seem to be working out for them. I remember they were a weekly guest on 1340 a few years back. Either way, it looks like the bar has been raised for local sports radio which may help both stations.

Snead was part of the co-host circus that would come on Sportsline every week. I believe Gus did as well. Gus would also appear on Hyatt's show to talk baseball. Snead also used to fill in for Finkner when Finkner went on vacation. Casey used to co-host The Chad Hasty Show, but then went to produce Hyatt's show for a couple months.

How do you run a Texas Tech based sportstalk station when you are barred from saying anything even remotely negative about Tech? I think the station will sound more and more like a 24 hour infomercial.

Any sports format in Lubbock will have to "play nice" with the 500-lb gorilla that is Texas Tech.

Since the bulk of local sports is indeed centered around Texas Tech, it behooves the station management to keep the university happy. That's not to say they couldn't cover anything negative, but they will have to walk a fine line just as KKAM did.

Tech has many many tricks to get what they want- and they do get what they want.

I'm gonna bet its the same in Lincoln, Nebraska, and Manhattan, Kansas as well. For that matter, anywhere that there is a university driven market. Its just not smart to blast the goose that lays the golden eggs. Especially, if there is a chance the goose can take its eggs to another station.

I wonder when 104.3 will get their website going and their streaming up? You'd think they'd have had that worked out in the long months they waited to launch after announcing they had the Texas Tech sports. I listened the other day and had to wonder if they were having trouble taking calls too. There seems to be a lot of technical problems for this station for it to be the Tech Station.
