Doug McIntyre's Red Eye Radio

yeah @Open Source, he was about to yell at a poor lady that he was interviewing from Iran because she was talking over him. She said something he didn't agree with.

Cumulus Media Networks merges Red Eye Radio with Midnight Radio Network:

The combined station roster will top 150, and give Cumulus Media Networks a stronger play against Premiere's "Coast to Coast AM" in the late night hours. "Red Eye Radio" originator Doug McIntyre will move away from the microphone at the end of the month and take on an unspecified new role, says Cumulus. That makes room for Gary McNamara and Eric Harley, the hosts of the Midnight Radio Network. Gary McNamara has worked in Buffalo (WBEN), Chicago (WLS), Portland, Oregon (KXL) and Dallas (WBAP). Since 2005, he’s been working opposite Eric Harley on “The Midnight Radio Network.” Its roots trace back to the Midnight Cowboy Trucking Show, which started at WBAP in 1969. Harley had been a producer of the Midnight show and a personality for ABC Radio Networks’ Dallas-based Pure Gold format. Gary and Eric will be live Monday through Friday, and in best-of mode Saturday and Sunday. The new iteration of Red Eye Radio begins January 3!

How's this going to work? Dial Global syndicates Midnight Radio Network, and under one of the worst barter agreements I've seen. They talk about competing with Coast to Coast too. Right now C2C, RER, and MRN are all live 7 nights a week, but according to this the new RER/MRN show will become reruns on weekends.

reruns on weekends, that's CRAZY
Red Eye Radio does a Best of show (early Saturday mornings) They are live early Sunday mornings,

if these shows plan to have "Best Of" shows, they already lost.
Who want to listen to a "Best of" show?
Things are happenning at that hour of the night, people are listenning at that time of the night.
Program Management Personal needs to get with it!

Instead of having repeated shows on the weekend, they should allow Mark Germain host the weekend shows. And if not Mark, have Doug host one night, and Mark host another. For a live syndicated show like that, why not have (every night) live? Things are happenning around the United States and around the world at those times, there are people listenning at those times. Programming Management has to think

150 RER/MRN stations against 562 CTC (and still gaining by the way) Stations and CTC is live every night. CTC should pitch their program to all the RER/MRN stations with a deal they can't refuse. Cumulus has a long way to go with their content if they want to catch up with CTC! I agree, best of shows are just a waste of good airtime, people listening want live, fresh, and up to date information which even CTC could use more of than they have right now.

I tryed to call this past Monday morning December 19. The Producer didn't let me on because he said I called last week and they have a one month rule. Last time I called them was around a year ago or so, right around when they had the sad Japan Earthquakes. As a matter of fact, that's the first time I heard his show, was that night.
I never called them last week, and he give me that B&&&S^%*. They do that, and they can run Repeats on early Saturday mornings?
Go figure!

So sad

Fox Sports Radio (JT The Brick, Big Ben Maller) lets the same callers call, every week, and some, every day.

Originally we were told Geraldo was joining the KABC lineup, but it would squeeze John Phillips to a one hour slot. Its a good thing that didn't happen.

I caught a little of the new "Red Eye Radio" this morning (Tuesday) January 3, 2012. It was ok. It could be better if they play less (Rock and Roll) Bumper music :'( To hard on my ears

The show is somewhat odd. Not only is it really bland with its new hosts, on one level they are trying to appeal to a general audience of night owls, but their commercial trucking ads interspersed on the ad breaks is a little strange...both audiences are too far apart to have a wide appeal for the program content.

The truck parts and motor oil adds are especially bizarre in on WABC. I thought Cumulus would have the good sense to run different spots on the previous Red Eye affiliates. Maybe they will over time if the sales opportunities exist, but meanwhile they might as well run PSAs that Manhattan residents could at least understand! :D

The new hosts are spending way too much time trying to explain who they are, where they are, what they do, what they believe, etc. If they start focusing more on news events and the audience they'll probably be OK. They seem knowledgeable and have logical, well formed opinions.

OTOH, I tuned in the new "McIntyre in the Morning" show on the KABC stream and the contrast is striking. McIntyre sounds like he's having a great time -- he's playing his favorite music coming back from the breaks -- and there seems to be good chemistry between him and Terri-Rae Elmer. They both sound comfortable -- as though they've been working together for awhile -- and that's a very good sign for a new team.

I hope this works out for Doug and that he's able to give Bill Handel a good run for the money, but I really miss him on Red Eye Radio! :'(

I also really miss him on Red Eye Radio.

Terry Rae is an incredible broadcaster....

The trucking industry spots are probably left over from "Midnight", which happens a lot when radio shows change.

For the first two weeks on CBS Radio's WKRK/92.3 "The Fan", the new FM sports talker here in Cleveland, you heard constant spots about alternative rock concerts and spots where young guys could find "cougars". :) 92.3 was alt-rock "Radio 92.3" until late August.

Then again, maybe Cumulus is going to try to serve both audiences, or doesn't want to turn away the trucker money...which will go away on its own as the show becomes more of a general interest program.
