Doug McIntyre's Red Eye Radio

You certainly don't need two hosts for that -- each one gets only 17 minutes of talk time!
I agree. They should use one for weeknights, and the other (instead of "Best Of" shows on the weekend) use the other host on the weekend LIVE

The show is unlisteneable now...although i didn't care for his viewpoints all the time, I really liked Marc Germaine.

Give me reruns of Clark Howard rather than the new crap.

They are going to lose affiliates big time. As a program director I'd give them another week and then start to look for something to replace Red Eye Radio. They affiliated with Doug McIntire and now they are getting a product that it totally something else and a ratings loser. For heaven sakes, 34 minutes of product?

Ridiculous.

Well said! I really wanted to like these guys but last night was enough! When the show isn't in a commercial break, the hosts are billboarding what they're going to talk about -- then by the time they get to it, it's time for another break. The show sounds like a continuous loop. PD's take notice!

Can someone recommend a good live streaming overnight talk show? I don't really care where it's from as long as it's live and somewhat interesting. I'm familiar with Kate Delaney's "America Tonight" -- a show that's OK at times but not very consistent. I'm going to sample Jon Grayson's "Overnight America" tonight. It's ironic that while the Internet now allows us to stream stations from anywhere in the country, most of them carry C2C or Red Eye Trucking.

Doug McIntyre's Red Eye Radio was an incredible gift. In the words of Joni Mitchell, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'till it's gone." I knew it wouldn't last very long but it's still hard to believe it's gone.

Try Phil Hendrie on TRN.

Sorry, Hendrie's a one trick pony. Once you get the joke (he's doing both sides of the conversation) it's over.

I listened to Jon Grayson last night and found him engaging but his presentation was disappointed. I tuned in during the second hour which began with a monologue about the proposed legislation that would allow broadcast TV stations the same freedom to air swear words as cable channels. He took phone calls and kept repeating the same explanatory lines over and over. Hour three was exactly the same! (Maybe the first hour was too, I don't know.) It reminded me of the way Mike Gallagher used to conduct his show. Fortunately Gallagher's gotten away from one-topic shows.

So tonight it's on to Bill Leff at WGN. He's apparently a writer and actor who was fired by Citadel during the bloodbath in '09 but brought back due to popular demand. Similar career path to Doug McIntyre. I'll let you know my impression.

America's Trucking Network is still on WLW overnights. It used to have a large affiliate base, especially under the Bozo, but there's no real network anymore and only WLW airs it.

ok, so the current "Red Eye Radio" affilaies should put this one on? Your thoughts. How is this show?

this could be another choice?
"America Tonight" with Kate Delaney. I never heard this show. However, I heard her on "Fox Sports Radio" back around ? 2005-2008.
She was awesome on "Fox Sports Radio"

As has been noted, many Cumulus stations are adding Red Eye Radio and taking off Coast to Coast--
in a couple of cases, C2C re-appears on a Clear Channel-owned station. (Cumulus distributes Red Eye;
Premiere/Clear Channel does Coast to Coast)

Prov RI: WPRO 630/WEAN 99.7 now running Red Eye. WHJJ 920 (Clr Channel) now running Coast to Coast

In a thread on Free Republic, many people offered opinions about the two shows. More than a few
said they miss Art Bell. Some said they like the new Red Eye hosts.

>>When I hear the words 'George Noory' I reach for my off button. I want Art Bell back!

> I listen to them (Midnight Radio Network) on occasion on WJR 760-Detroit. A top notch program!

Art Bell and Doug McIntyre are unique talents who know how to connect with an audience. The overnight shows they used to host are in no way the same without them.

My personal replacement for Doug McIntyre's Red Eye Radio is Jon Grayson's Overnight America which CBS streams out of KMOX, St. Louis. The show has only a few affiliates but, IMO, it would be a far better fit for many stations than the current trucking show that carries the Red Eye name. (That show has one too many hosts and far too many commercials!)

Grayson isn't the character Doug McIntyre is ... he's younger and doesn't have McIntyre's in-depth knowledge of history. I found him a bit stiff when I first tuned in, but I'm beginning to enjoy the show a lot. Grayson is personable and has a low-key sense of humor. He's a musician and seems to have a number of other interests.

What I like about the show is that, like McIntyre's Red Eye Radio, the focus is on general news -- not all politics. There are no gimmicks ... just a good mix of interviews and phone calls with Grayson doing a good job of keeping up the pace and making it interesting for the listener. I think that kind of simple, one-to-one communication is especially important overnight. You just want someone to talk to you!

I'll be interested to see if his affiliate list grows as former McIntyre affiliates, especially stations in larger markets, discover that their listeners who know more about salad oil than motor oil aren't exactly in sync with the truckers.

Bell was a little more interesting and hard to pigeon hole. Doug tried too hard to be talk radio boiler plate and lost an edge for being independent.

It's bad enough that they only have 34 minutes of content per hour, but they also occasionally have some truck lube guy pimping his product during their segments.
The only time I listen any more is when the better alternative (WBZ in Boston) is in an ad break, and those are always short breaks.
