Doug Stephan - Stealth Host

Every morning, I check Radiodailynews.com. And it seems like every week or so I see an item that Doug Stephan has added three or four more affiliates. He's on a few progressive talk stations before or during morning drive. But mostly he's heard on stations with other formats. I've heard him referred to as a liberal but some apparently consider him not liberal enough (like Alan Colmes). However, he seems to be picking up stations and nobody much notices.

To my listening he seems to go more for lifestyle and water-cooler topics than politics. When he does political topics, he seems to be non-confrontational and arguementative and to play it down the middle (which has become an unusual - even refreshing - approach these days).

I listened to him a few times when he was on the i.e. America network, it was pretty funny at times, with Nancy Skinner as a cohost at the time.

Doug is at his best as a ranter, not a debater. His first hour is when he does the best ranting, when he has no co-host or guests. He is an old-fashioned conservative... fiscal responsibility, limited federal power, personal accountability rather than lagislation. These are in direct contrast to todays "conservatives" which are really "neocons". But that's a political discussion.

I agree, Doug's show is easy listening, especially the last few hours. He has a lot of women listeners, they're his solid base.

Don't forget his 2 hour Saturday AM show with Michael Harrison, editor of Talkers Magazine. Harrison is truly a nonpartisan guy and on top of talk radio goings-ons.<P ID="signature">______________
